my 22m 1000 rimfire is on a turmoil. i just got it all together and it does fly fine so far, but.. anywhere from low to mid thottle it makes this terrible screech sound. at full thottle it goes away. something seems wrong. i got it from a guy i know used, but he said as far as he knew it was fine. when i run it without the prop on, it makes less noise but still there. i tried 2 different props thinking vibration was the issue also. but it really is not vibrating. oh and its a catle 30 ESC and 3 cell lipos.

actually, i am not really sure what controller it is. from pics i have looked at, it seems like it is the castle 25. would the timing cause the motor to make a noise like that? i tried a brand new motor on the controller and it did the same thing. so it is def. the controller.

well, it is the same as a phoenix 25. i programmed it following the directions on castles site for the phoenix 25 and it worked. i also noticed that they both look very similar, so i would guess i have the older version of the phoenix 25.
my question is, would i want high advance, standard advance, or low advance?
is advance the only hting that could be causing this?

Interesting I have used the Rimfire in SEVERAL foamies (Including a Turmoil recently)
and it is fine- I am using that tiny 8 amp ESC though-- Sounds like you got it figured.
I moved up to a 6MM foamie by [link=http://www.Chargerrc.com]Charger RC[/link] and they fly much better IMHO- and are only slightly heavier. hardly any tail-twisting, easier to assemble, affordable, and more durable!

I once had a similar problem. Proping down helped but did not cure it. I finally swapped out ESC's as you did and it worked. Maybe soon I just get a fully programable BL ESC
