RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
Regarding the weight.....I just bought one of these planes....and decided to check preliminary weight before gluing and finishing....
The plane with the wings, fillets, landing gear (minus wheels and axles, minus rx, minus extension wires and minus glue and soldering banana plugs) 1800 mah 3 cell, 35 amp HK esc (no extra bec), 480-1020kv motor and 12x6 prop and adapter,4 x 9 gram servos......weighed 28.5 ounces.....
THis is just all the above components weighed up....it doesn't include gluing of tail feathers, epoxy of fillets or soldering of plugs or wire extensions.....
So im not sure how one could keep it under 30 ounces reasonably....maybe with a 1600mah hyperion cx, and soldering ther extensions direct to servos with light wiring, and ca vs epoxy on the fillets,....then "maybe" one could keep it under 30 ounces....
So the weight claims buy the manufacturer seem highley optimistic to me.
just my two cents.
oh yeah....thats also without the rear wheel weight, and without linkages added in, or servo arms!!....

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
I didn't worry to much about the actual weight vs. suggested weight. As a matter of fact, I added some weight when I reinforced the landing gear area to survive those unintended rough landings. It flies great even with the added weight, including some hovering (I'm still not good at it), perfect knife edges and smooth harriers. I do use the SFG's all the time. I think they help a lot.
Have fun!

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
How Cheap can I get a Mini Funtana X in the air?
O.K., this is going to generate a lot of negative responses, but I'm sure all will be curious as to how she preforms.
What I have ordered...
Thunderbird 36 ESC
Optima 480 BM - @ $17.70 http://www.hobbypartz.com/75m21-opti...10-1020kv.html
7g Sub-Micro Servo - Package of 2 for $3.40!!! That's $6.80 for 4! I ordered 6 in case of of DOA's http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dy-1002.html
The ESC I already have...
RX is a $20 Crystal-less that I have used on other aircraft... http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...5&pid=C0365463
The motor specs are approx the same as the Park 480
The servo specs (if I remember correctly) fal between the 55 and 65
Should be together in about a week, any suggestions for Red Flags I should look for BEFORE launching this?

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
I have one of the 2/$3.40 servos that I broke the wires on by accident and thought I would see how strong the gears are. What I did was installed a long control arm on it and cranked it by hand as fast as I could. It stripped right out! Would a higher quality servo fare better or is this just a good way of destroying ANY servo?

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
Sounds like fun, I'll have to try it! I was impressed by the 12x6 but only having 1800Mah LiPos I am running an 11x5.5 to extend the run times. We kind of had a lab session at the field with a watt/volt meter and I found that w/the 12x6 I am pushing everything (ESC , Lipo "C" rating etc) to the MAX! Not quite as radical but I can still pull out vertical if I get into trouble. Which prop were you using before and how does the 10x10 affect run times?

I set my timer up to 8.5 minutes using 1800 mah and 12 x 6 which uses about 80% of the battery. Mostly hovering, slow harriers, knife edges plus regular flying around about 1/2 throttle with lots of touch-and-go. How much longer can you fly using the smaller prop?

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
I have 5 2000-2200 mah packs and when I fly with the 10x10 prop I'm mostly flying all out..
I keep my flights to 5-6min running 80-100% throttle
But when I fly with a 11x5.5 I fly with a little more grace and my flights are about 9min

RE: E-Flite Mini Funtana X
Well I flew my Mini Funtana x first flight today, and ripped out the gear in my first landing. I am a newbe, so I am glad I only did that minimum damage. My Funtana is set up with the following gear mostly from BlackdogRC:
Arrowind 2810-12 motor
Arrowind 3s 2200 mah Lipo
Dynam40 ESC
3A switching UBEC
EMP 11-5.5E prop
Corona DSP61011 Receiver
Since my flying experience consists of about 10 flights on a trainer, and about 5 flights on a Parkzone T28, I set the D/R at %50 . Still It was very sensitive compared to what I was used to. Aileron rolls even at that reduced rate were fast and on rails. I don't know my AUW, but it climbed vertical at FT and I could roll going straight up Till the MFX got real small. On my first landing I lined up into the 8-10mph wind and slowed adding about 1/3 up trim. I had everything under control until at about 5ft I leveled off and cut the power. A wing dropped either from wind gust, or tip stall, I'm not sure, but I didn't catch it quite in time and a wing tip hit first then the belly hit and the gear flew off, and the MFX came to rest on its belly. I was flying off grass, so damage was limited. I love this plane and can't wait until I get the skills to really fly it properly. After that I flew my T-28 on high rates exclusively to try and get used to the sensitivity, but the same thing happened to it and the wing ripped out. No problem, It is now repaired with Epoxy and I will wait till morning to get some flying in with less wind. I plan on practicing landings over and over on high rates till I can grease the T-28 on regularly before I fly the MFX again. Any advice would be helpful. Oh also, by Airtronics Radiant does not have EXP, so that is not an option, but flaperons or spoilerons are.
Regards
