The new electric YAK 54 from Greatplanes!
Hi all.
Have you seen it?
Anyone assembling one of them yet to see some pics?
I want to ask if it's possible to convert it into glow.
Thank you.

I would strongly recommend NOT putting in a glow engine. These smaller electrics are designed for electric motors, the vibration from the glow engine would be very bad on this airframe. Plus the added weight of the glow and you would easilly risk tearing this plan apart in the air.

I was thinking of a 15 OS LA engine.

In addition, it would fly like crap. The small prop that that engine would turn would be worthless for anything but flying circles. Also, you would still wind up heavy. Yeah, it would likely fly, but very poorly and the vibration from the motor along with the extra speed from the added weight of the motor and additional pitch speed would tear the airframe apart prematurely. Either go electric with this one, or find a bigger plane.

why would glow be a problem on this plane, i currently have a e-flite mini edge 540 with a thunder tigre 15 on it, not quite unlim vertical, could prob hover on 1/2 to 3/4 throttle if i could hover... but im not quite the 3d pilot yet, but it is an awesome combo for a mini conversion, lomcevaks are a spectacular scene with it ... no wings havnt ripped off yet for those saying it would tear an electric plane apart having a heavy motor up front.

Is it possible to post some pics of your conversion?
I think the new GP e YAK will hold on perfectly.
Question is if there is room for the fuel tank.
That's why need some pics of it here,
or even the manual??????

I think the biggest concern is the vibration though... I have the new electric Yak from extreme flight and its a little bigger than this one and there is no way I would put a glow engine on it. They are built extremely light and the vibration alone would tear it apart in few flights IMHO.

I think that if you're going to do an electric to fuel conversion, you should do it in the regular airplane forum and not here. Just my two cents.
Sorry guys. I haven't posted much, but this looks like a nice airplane. I would hate to have someone mess it up with that stinky stuff. We all know it would tear it all to hell. They are just being aggravating. I love the covering. There has been some disagreement on RC groups about the covering being clear or not. It definitely looks cool either way. Does anyone know when this model comes out?

The MINI Edge 540, unlike this plane, is built like a tank. This one is much lighter and sparsely built. I think you're taking unnecessary chances by going with glow. Just curious, what are your reasons for going glow? The way I see it, all you're doing is adding weight and flying too small of a prop to make a good plane.

to be honest, i think the edge is quite a light built plane not a TANK! as you stated, if i wanna call something a tank, its my great planes christen eagle II, coz that things a tank, but yeh the edge is very light built, as of this minute i dont have any pictures, but i will have to take some, and also the only reason y i say go ahead and convert, no waiting 1 hour between each flight for god dam batts to charge, just fuel and fly, fuel and fly, fuel and fly, thats y i converted my edge

I think that glow version is just a waste. E planes are getting better and better and I personally think that everything below 60" should be E.

Well i can get around 10 mins of the fuel and also, due to expense of 2 batteries, i could prob get around 33 litres of 5 percent nitro for the cost of $100+ batteries considering i make my own fuel which is around $6AU per litre. plus after having a bettery explode inisde my house, i shall never use lithium (polymer) ever again, only lithium Ions in my big gasser for me.

For me at least, I dont mind spending a little more on the batteries. It seems to me that the average Joe probably doesn't mix his own fuel. Like me I have to drive to the hobby shop to purchase it. Factor in expensive fuel cost for your car...my nearest hobby shop is nearly an hour away. I think for me at least it is a lot simpler to just charge and fly. Cleaner too! As for safety, lithium polymers are safe as long as they are handled correctly. Lipo balancers will keep you out of trouble as long as you use the battery the way it was intended. Push em too hard or damage them and they could be a problem.
