Working on my second AJ, and an E-flite mini Edge 540, E-flite Ultimate FX, Flyzone SkyFly (for my wife...second trainer...done about an hour ago).

Too many irons in the fire...good thing I'm on vacation!

Hope to have the AJ done in a day or two.

Just ordered 9 more (count 'em! Nine!) lipo batteries for all the new birds...pathetic.

Hey Guys,
i got my Aj extra in the week. as i have been building i have come across something that concerns me. i've installed the horizontal stab the the elevator halfs. the two halfs are joined by a dowel. everything is good and glued but there is flex in the dowel. when i move the elevator to 3-d rates i'm not getting equal travel out of each half. the half with the servo of course is getting full travel but the other half is less!!!! has anyone else ran into this??? if you have have you fixed it or are you just living with it??? if you have fixed how did you do it??? i plan to 3-d this plane alot so i will be using max throws on elevator!! i love this plane i can't wait for the rest of my gear to get here so i can fly her!!!

Heres what gear i'm using.... Hacker A30-10XL, Hacker X-40 esc, Berg 7 receiver, 2 hs-81's on ailrons, 2 hs-81mg's on elevator and rudder. Maxamps 3 cell 3000mah li-po pack. 3-dservo amrs!!

thanks for the help guys!!!

Look and see in the neutral position, your elevator halves are perfectly aligned. If they are, something is binding, whether it's hinges, dowel, alignment, covering, etc. Measure from a flat surface to see if your max throws on each elevator half are the same. Disconnect the elevator control horn, and cycle the elevator to its extreme travel, a lot (I do this maybe 50 times with all surfaces).

Again, if the elevator halves align perfectly at neutral, something is binding! Good luck!

flat CF on top and in the bottom like what Bodywerks use will work great. You'll just have to enlarge the fuse hole a bit.

Just got done with my 2nd AJ, Bones. I'll do most of my aerobatics at half-throttle (at least the ones that rip wings off planes).

My 81MGs really love the 6 volt BEC. I've never had a plane with surfaces as fast as this...

i just finished mine and i found problems with the anti rotation dowls. the were to small and would move the wing about 10% up and parts on the fuse were nt glued.

has anyone had any of these problems.

i have flown one andrew jeskeys prototype that you see advertised and i love the way it flys

Mikey:

Are you running 4S? What motor?

I'm running a Hacker A30-12XL with 4S 2500 mah. FP Evo. Ballistic with a 14X7 APCe prop. Doesn't run out of vertical.

Mikey,

Go with 14x7, up to even 15x8 and it'll make it come alive more. The X40 can handle 4S IF you get a separate BEC for it. 13x6.5 on the 10XL is a 4S prop.

Charles,
I think on most of my tumbles I'm at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Downline WFO is definitely a no no for me .

Hey bonedoc,
I am running 10xl, 4s as you already know with the x40 and my flight times are about 6 minutes on a 2150 fliton pack. I definately love the pop of the 4s but I want more time. Edson was talking to me about a 2500 or 3000 mah 4s pack maybe running a 12 x 8 prop.

I really like how the 13 x 6.5 performs or maybe the 14x7 like you said. But I dont get much time in the air. This last saturday I got about 6 minutes in and did not hit LVC. There was three people constantly on the runway fiddling around with their planes so I was unable to get some low vid due to running into the runway hoggers. Then the wind started howling 15 +. Hopefully I will get in some more time this saturday to get some good vid to show off.

I am running cg 3.250 back from the leading edge. Edson said that they are another .500 back or more from there. I will be moving pack back some more. Any way what are your times on 14x7 and 15x8? Do you think 12x8 is way to small for still having good vertical pullout? praying for a sunny non windy day off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badboy,

I had Fliton solder my bec to x40 and the process is to not connect one of the red wires. I am not sure of the reason or explanation but I am running 4s with no problems. Call Edson and they will explain, Or pm Bonedoc and I am sure he will help, He got me the info on programming my x40. Also Edson has given good deals on batteries, Spinners, prop adapters I even got park bec free with combo. Fliton has got my attention with their outstanding customer service, and great flying planes.

3DAP,

4S 3000 mah is the ticket for roughly 10 min of good 3D. Andrew said that he likes the longer flight time with minimal weight penalty. As a bonus, you get better wind penetration also (just check his SEFF video). If I were to prop down, I'd go 12x6 instead, but I just can't let go of the power and speed I get with the 13 x 6.5. I think APC also makes 13x4 which will be more suited for 3D application.

Thanks to Pete from my club for getting some more AJ Footage.[link=http://young99.net/../images/Videos/AJX%204.wmv]AJ Extra 330S 4th Video[/link]

If you squint hard enough, you can see a 1 roll circle at the 2 min mark .

i can't fly my aj extra 330 yet.the airplane look pretty good but for beginers like me is hard to put it together,i put the motor mount with the up mark facing inside and i have to order another one,all the connecting harware from the servo to wing are real cheap and a have to buy some better ones,i bought a haker a30-14L wit 14x7 prop.and hitec hs-81 mg servos .now i have to save some money to buy a esc, battery and charger.i never inmaging that a have to spend some much money but i like aj 330 s since a wacth it fly in a video.but everybody who see this airplane tell me that is real nice.i can't wait to fly it by myself.

Cuban, what I do with the motor cage is to dry fit everything first, then wick a thin CA, followed by med CA. That's IT . The motor box held up just fine.

I just got mine finished, used a hacker 30 12xl with twin 1800 lipo packs and a castle creation esc and some hitec hs-81 I get 8 min of flyng out of it and really good 3d maneuvers can be trown at it and this plane is as easy to fly as my 39% dalton so is a great kit
There are some picks, please forgive me for the mess in my hobby room
