Great thread Itai! I saw some of your posts on the other forum. I decided to join this thread too if you'll have me on board
Here is some footage my friend shot of mine in some wind today;

Hi aflipz
thanks for joining, no problem, I was waiting for some one that already flies the plane.
Do you think EF 35 A esc is good choice?

I think it will be just fine with a 12x6E prop The esc will only be seeing very short bursts above 31-33A and it is rated for 35 continuous with bursts above that. With the good airflow this cowl has it will not be a problem.

I like the battery tray, it is well mounted, it has sufficient holes to allow airflow to cool the battery and it has a groove that holds the Velcro from moving up and down.
The only thing I added is six foam rubber dots that I cut with a hollow punch tool. Then I pressed it to a double sided transparent tape and cut it round. Stick it to the battery tray and you're done.

be carefull with that radio, it only has a 250 metre range if i am not mistaken... Possibly less! (especially with all the cf in this bird)

Yes I think it is 250, but very light,
I will perform a few range checks, if there will be a problem I will change it.
I think 200 meters is good for a small 3D electric, after 100 meters it looks to small.

oh yeah without a doubt you will be able to keep it in range, you just have to remember what the range is. Using full range rx's in all but the smallest application myself i don't think about it anymore, if my KMD had a shortened range i might forget and exceed it one day inadvertantly, while chasing a seagull out of my airspace for instance!

itai, you inspired me with the foam rubber battery tray pads. I just copied you and cut some thin strips that i applied to some of the diagonal parts on the cf battery tray. I glued them on with shoe goo; a rubber like adhesive that behaves a little like contact cement but is completely reversible (just scratch and peel it off if you need to) This will work great!

Itai,
Here is a test graph to help you decide on the ESC.
My setup:
- PA Thrust 30
- Castle Creations 45
- FlightPower 2170mAH 3s1p Evolution 25C
APC E prop 12x6
Max Amp Draw: 32.1 Max Watts: 339
APC E prop 13x6.5
Max Amp Draw: 38.8 Max Watts: 416

That proves with your 35A airboss esc you have absolutely nothing to fear on a 12x6, and a relatively safe 13x6.5 setup with good ventilation and some throttle management.

Airboss has a 2A bec which should be good enough for the KMD even on the best servos out there.
Daniel Dominquez got away with a 25 A 1st gen castle creations with 1.5A bec, of course he did have problems with that esc but it's to be espected when youre running it over spec on both the bec and the motor power. I would use the airboss 35 in mine with no worries. But i did have a phoenix 45 with 3A bec so guess what i am using
nothing wrong with a bit of well placed overkill!

Airboss 35A ESC has an on-off switch so I needed to find a place to put it. the switch has a 2mm thread, so I found two short 2mm screws, cut a light piece of balsa with openings to the switch and for two holes. Then glued in place and cut the covering film fitted in place and set the screws.

sweet!
That makes disarming the plane at the end of a flight so much safer... If anything bumps my sticks while i am disconnecting there could be serious trouble! You can make the system safe at a flick of a switch then turn your tx right off before disconnecting the pack.
I have to carefully place the tx flat on the ground, stay clear of the prop's general area, hold hte plane at all times in case it glitches into action, remove canopy and disconnect pack withotut ever letting go of the plane in case it goes WOT on me unexpectedly.
I saw a guy who needed like 20 stitches after his foamy with a small power system jumped up and bit him hard in the arm. I am willing to bet the KMD's power system is enough to take fingers clean off...
You can never be too carefull with these things, so easy to prevent, so hard to reverse!

i think since you are probably planning to use this plane for all 3D purposes, to move the ESC behind the motor where the airscoops are so you can get better cooling, also very important remember to open the hole in the back of the plane so the hot air can go out. Rigth now in the position you have it, im not sure if the ESC will get enough cooling, remember you are using a 35 esc and you want it to be cool , funny thing is, the castle 25 worked awesome, but the 1.5 amp bec is what gave me trouble it seems, so if you have one of the new castle 25 with 3 amp bec, that will probably be enough esc for it as long as you stay with 12x6 prop.

what about the opening at the bottom of the cowl,
The only question is if the battery really gets hot and needs cooling.

yes you can line the esc up with the bottom hole of the cowl that works great. i did that only mine is way back near the firewall. (edit: i am using a castle creations 45A esc rated for 60A bursts so it tends to run very cool on a setup that draws only about 30-37 in bursts and much lower averages)
in any case, all the air forced through the cowl openning inevitably flows on and around the battery pack and continues it's way back out to the rear openning. No need to worry about this as no matter where your esc is it can't block the pack from the path of flowing air.
