Is this possible... building a shocky out of 3mm balsa sheeting instead of using 3mm depron?

Of course you can. Keep in mind you want out of Balsa what Depron offers, light weight and stiffness. A good contest grade Balsa may be light enough. It would be a interesting comparison which has probably already been done. Keep in mind Depron has a finish of sorts built in and that is a positive in the weight control area.
