Hi To get things started I wanted to tell you that I am new at 3d. I picked up a hyperion extra 260 40E http://www.atsrcplanes.com/hyperion_...ra_260_40e.htm
I have a skyshark 50x55 600kv outrunner, 120amp venom esc, fightpower evo 30 3200mah 5s lipo, castle ubec, and hs225mg servos.
I have the cg set at 100mm back (manual states to start at 93mm back)(at 100 mm back it floats in with no power level"hands off") and all the control throwes set at or slightly above(only the rudder is above and it still needs a hair more) manuals recommended throws for 3d. I weigh in at 4 pounds 11 ozs and have 1400watts on tap with a 15x8 prop. Have pullout power under 1/2 throttle
I get tons of wing rock trying to harrier and cant seem to keep it stable in a hover. Cant blender or waterfall either???????? I did get it to do a parachute(it looked awsome but of course it fell out of it). Also since I have gone to the bigger 15x8 prop I can knife edge the whole feild(I have now gotten it down to about 10 foot high but the planr doesnt have enough rudder to pull up once its set in)
Well I went to the lhs last night and got on the sim to see if it was just my lack of skills. Well I did rock solid harriers and hovers also did waterfalls, elevaters, and blenders like a pro. I ask the lhs guy(he is a 3d piliot but gas not electric) why it was so easy to do on the sim. He said for a hover to be that stable I must be flying a plane with a gyro. So he came and checked it out and I wasnt(it was me) He was very surprised. So He put on the bad weather, changed up the planes and all. I sill could do them all with out issues. So he said it must be my plane.
If anyone could offer some help I would be graetly appreciated

Wing rock gets less and less when cg is adjusted aft. Right about where the plane will be neutral pitch change from upright and inverted. Hover is greatly easier with an aft cg also. The position of the stab relative to centerline makes hovering easier when the engine wing horizontal stabilizer and elevators all lign up. Such as Extra 260's and Yaks. But it takes practice practice practice.
Wing rock will not bother you too much after and if, you become confident the plane will not go unstable and completely fall off on a wing.

The sim will never EVER be able to reproduce actual flight conditions. It can only "simulate" them.
Even expert pilots can do things in the sim that they cant do in real life.
You simply cannot compare a real life airplane to the plane in the sim. The sim isnt real. Dont assume that your plane is inadaquate because it doesnt perform like the sim.
This being said. There are some things that you can do to improve the performance of your plane.
First, work on the CG, getting the CG right can help alot in harriers.
Also balance the plane on the roll axis. Try to get both wings balanced. If one wing is heavier, it can make the plane less stable.
Its likely that you will never be able to get rid of the wing walk, but you can learn to fly through it.

I do have to provide down elevater alittle when inverted. So I will work on that(THANKS) Also I have not looked at the balance from left to right(only front to back) I will also work on that tonight. If weather is good tomarrow I will let you know how it goes!!! Thanks again for the advice and giving me something to work on.
I thought the sim was way to easy to be like real flying.

Yeah, sims really are just good for messing around, or getting your orientation correct. Nothing too special about them.
And what is this I'm hearing about gyros? That's bull that the guy said you need gyros for hovering. I can hover pretty much and 3D plane, without a gyro and make it look pretty stable.
I've jeard that that plane can be a hassle to hover sometimes, so it may just be the plane.

Well Last nigh I broke my elevater. So I pulled ot apart and epoxed it back together and got the cg moved back so it flys inverted with no elevater change. WOW what a difference. It still has some wing rock but its no longer severly dropping a wing when I do a wall or pull up on the elevater at all. SO I was able to harrier alittle more stable today but the wind didnt agree with me(12 to 15mph) IF the wind dies down tomarrow after work I will give it a better try and report back.
I think alot of my issues might have been the slop in the elevater halves(had some slop) its very stiff now(lots of epoxy)
My plane still floats in like a dream even with the cg moved back (had to add 3/4 of an oz to the tail) I didnt have anything else to move back[:@]
