Hacker B40 for some type of foamy?
Hey guys, I have a Hacker B40-4:1 plant in my Wattage Crazy eight right now that I want to take out and use it for a 3D type foamy. Do you think that this would be to big or heavy of a motor. I was thinking of doing a bigger plane for it. Cost a ton for the right Li poly set up. but i think it could be done, what do you folks think?

Hi
I got a B40 too... which wind do you have? also is it a S or L? factory mounted 4,4:1 gearbox? a B40 performs as a 72 4 stroke, I use mine in a Kyosho CAP232 40 size, on 10 round cells. hovers and pulls out! previous I had it in a diablotin mini usper, very good power/weight ratio. I would suggest an E3D, www.gwmp.net |

it's a 18S with a 4,4:1 pant gearbox from hacker. I would also like to go with Li cells. I want run times of at least 10 mins.

Hi
a 18S...hm useing 4s2p thunderpower you would get a very light ship, and about 2,2kg thrust. 14x7 APCE or so. make sure to get proper cooling as you can expect 20min + flight times. maybe even a heatsink! www.aircraft-world.com |
RE: Hacker B40 for some type of foamy?
2.2 kg thrust?
Isn't 5kg 11 lbs? What foamie fits this? |
RE: Hacker B40 for some type of foamy?
Hi
sure, 1lb = 0,454kg where did you get the 11lb from? |
RE: Hacker B40 for some type of foamy?
I did a lot of FAI powered stuff - and 11 lb is the weight limit - (5 k)

I still don“t see the point [:o]

Point?
I only wondered at the size of the "foamie "- It seemed it would ne largeer than any foamies I have seen. |
RE: Hacker B40 for some type of foamy?
You could build a foamy for the B40, but it wouldn't fly as well as a built up plane.
I've built a couple of 48" span foamies for glow power. This is with 1/2" thick Foamular pink color high density insulation from the local hardware store. If you used anything thiner than that, such as the popular 6mm Depron you would have to do a lot of reinforcing and probably also have to use "flying wires" attached between a pylon and the wing for enough strength. The flat plate airfoil does ok on the small lightweight planes, but IMHO with a bigger heavier plane it just doesn't work out for electric flight. You need a good airfoil that will allow the plane to fly slower. Bill |

i think your right. have to go another direction i think.
