3DX with HiMaxx 4100 and 12x6 prop question

3 of us are building the 3DX fan fold foam plane with HiMaxx 4100kv motors and GWS 6.6:1 gearbox and a 12x6 GWS slow flyer prop.
This setup was suggested in these forums. My friend is finished his and said he tried flying it the other day and it way too much torque. Is there a special way to launch these planes, a certain throttle setting .... what can you suggest?

maybe get somebody else to launch it so he can have both hands on the stiks. I fly the
Trident, which is very similar to the 3DX. At times it surprise's me which way its gonna go when I launch it. I pinch it between my thumb and pointer finger (right hand)around the canopy and launch it under handed.....Gator

I use about 3/4 throttle and hold it by the canopy (under hand) with my left hand and with my right hand on the Tx Aileron/Elevator stick (need a strap or Tx Tray). It launches with no problems at all, straight into a gentle climb.

My CG is about 1" to 1.5" behind the spar.

Craig.

RE: 3DX with HiMaxx 4100 and 12x6 prop question

I'm not flying the 3DX, but I'm using the same motor set up on my airplane. I launch right handed with just enough throttle to sustain hover. These airplanes seem to need to be flown with a lot of rudder input to drive them around. Also make sure you have some right thrust to help the torque, if you don't try some right rudder trim. Tom

I launch left handed..give it about 1/2 throttle and launch from an underhand toss. Same set-up, slightly different plane.
