SEFF?

Is anyone going to SEFF this summer? I don't think it gonna be as fun as the first year because all the sponsors will be showing off these huge planes. It really is intimidating. Im planning to go. Im bringing a Magic, Super Miss, Pigi 3D and brushless flying pizza from GWS. Lemme know if yur going and whut kinda planes yur gonna bring.
Thanks

I might be going again this year. Jeff Meyers is badgering me to go, but that would be three years in a row that I would be at a Fun-fly on my anniversary. Not sure if the little woman is going to let me get-a-way with that [:o]

I'm planning on going.
I'll be taking my giant 87" 3D plane, but I'll have a few little planes with me also.
What big planes do you know about that will be there?

Bill

Team JR will have lots and lots of huge planes like Quique Somenzini with his CarreraE, i also saw a 1/4 Edge 540.
I went the first year but not the 2nd

I'm not sure why you would find these planes intimidating....

We have encouraged folks to bring large electrics to the event b/c it requires guys to get creative with designs and push the envelope with new technologies.....

The larger electrics are not for everyone...they are too expensive for some...but lots of folks like to look....Actually....Team JR brought a ton of GWS planes last year and flew them most of the time!

I'm glad you are coming up this year...I hope you have fun....that's what it is all about.

RE: SEFF?

We do not have that field anymore for one thing...

We are about to lose our second field in less than one year...unfortunately....Fayette County has become a popular place and land is at a REAL premium. Currently...there is not a field in Atlanta that is big enough for SEFF. We had pilot pit areas running from one end of the runway to the other last year (1,700 feet long)

Mac's field is a great place to host a large event.

Power hookups for RVs
full service hobby shop right in the pits
1,700 ft grass runway (cut mulitple times per week to keep the grass between a golf fairway and putting green) Have you ever been there? The runway is amazing...
Having a 1,700 foot runway allows pilots to spread out down the flightline....it also makes plane retrieval safer when someone needs to go out on the runway to retreive a plane.
AC Power
Real restrooms
huge covered hangar for vendors
covered hangar also houses a very large Tx impound, pilot check in and over $10K in raffle prizes ( Our other option would be to rent $1-2K tents)
tons of parking
plenty of hotels within 10-15 minutes of the field (Many of the hotels sponsor the event by offering a few rooms for event staff...this cuts down on our costs of running the event so we can pay for other things)
Americus (host city) has completely embraced our event.....we get tons of help from the city manager, tourism board, local college, newspapers, television stations, city maintenance.... The city makes arrangements to deliver huge crates to Mac's field. The crates are filled with show planes that are shipped in so that our demo pilots to not have to rent U Haul trucks and forklifts......care to figure out how much that would cost and the time it would take?

All the pilots that I talked with loved flying at Mac's last year....most said that it was the nicest field they have ever had the opportunity to fly at....

The distance from Atlanta (2 hours) makes it difficult to to get enough club members to come help out.....it also will limit the number of spectators...but we did not have a decrease in attendance last year....I expect that we will have a lot more spectators from the Atlanta area this year now that the word is out that they missed a pretty cool event last year....

I'd love to come, but it's quite a trip from home. Maybe next year.
