would a GWS naro+f STD servos be up to the job on the blade on all surfaces

That's a 9g servo isn't it? I'm using Saturn Feather 6.2g servos in the Blade that I'm building. I got them at the Sandown show from West London Models. I think they were £11.99 each. I'm already using the same servos in an Ikarus shocky Extra and they seem to work fine. There's also 5.4 and even 4.4g servos in the same range but I wasn't sure 2g/servo was worth an extra £5 a time. Also the 6.2g servo has a higher torque figure which is probably a good thing for such large control surfaces.

im using 4.4g servos from als, dead chep. only 14 quid and 1.1kg of torque

I am using the Cirrus 4.4 servos and they work fine. We have found that putting a piece of triangle stock on both sides of the fuse (like the Skockflyers) will get rid of any tail twist you might have.

IN the UK what are you powering your blades and shockys with?

Personally I'm using a PJS 300 SFR on a shockie. In the UK they're available from www.ansaproducts.co.uk who specialise in 3D stuff - shockies/Blade/etc. - a bit like the UK equivalent of NSP I think! However, like everywhere else, I think the real motor of choice here is the AXI 2208/34 (sometimes /26) but the fact that they ARE so popular means it's now almost impossible to find anyone in Europe with stock. I imagine the chaps in Czechoslovakia at Model Motors must be rubbing their hands in glee right now as they order their third Porsche. I'm going to share the PJS300SFR between shockie and Blade until I can get a 2208/34 and then I'll fit it to the better of the two planes - whichever that turns out to be.

Cliff, how do you find that PJS, what cells are you running it with. Im desperate to fly my blade and thee isnt a AXI anywer tilll next month:(

I can't actually compare PJS300 and AXI (yet) as I only have experience of the PJS so far but I have to say that it's about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on flying this shockie with it - I imagine it'll be the same for my Blade.

When I first got the shockie flying I had both a 3S Kokam 340 pack and a couple of Etec 1200 2S packs. I tried the 3S with a GWS 9x4.7 and the 2S's with a GWS 10x4.7. My first reaction was that the 3S setup was too wild to be controllable so I spent the first couple of weeks with the 10x4.7 fitted and using just the 2S packs which has been extreme fun and has really honed my reactions to the point where in about thelast twenty flights (fingers crossed in case I jinx it!) I haven't had any attitude I couldn't recover from and it'll do the whole range of wild aerobatics.

So with new found confidence I flew it with the 9x4.7 and lighter 3S pack last night and finally.... NOW I GET IT! This really IS the sweet combination for this plane. I took off from a concrete path pulled to the vertical and continued straight up doing vertical rolls until the plane was so high I couldn't immediately work out it's orientation (not that it matters at that height!).

Even on the 2S packs I can hover (well kind of - as well as I've managed so far). The only problem with the 3S pack I find is that unlike the 2S where I basically have to keep the throttle at 100% to "hover" and just use the left stick for rudder control. With 3S (and lighter pack) this happens at about 1/2 stick so I find that as I use the rudder I am tending to nudge the throttle up/down at the same time which is taking a bit of getting used to (my Tx also has the throttle ratchet removed cos I use it to fly helis too).

The only downside I have with the 3S 340 pack is that it only lasts about five and half minutes and I want MORE! I'm thinking that some 3S 830-850 packs (Apogess/irate/Polyquest) may give the best balance of weight/voltage/capacity.

But to answer your question, yup I think the PJS300SFR (note that's the SFR, not SF I've got!) is certainly a nice substitute until you can get hold of an AXI 2208 (talking of which I notice www.aircraft-world.com have the 2208 in stock so I'm going to order one from there and then I'll be able to make a true comparison with the PJS)

thankls cliff, im used to powr, i have (had, crashed last monday) a cougar with a 2.5:1 power to wight ratio! mad it was, i just want lots and lots of power. my blade withgs about 200g so 500g of thrust would make me happy

'Fraid the PJS300 is only going to deliver 300 of the 500g you need (there's a clue in the name!!). But 300 on a 180g plane seems pretty reasonable to me anyway!

ansa cliams the 300sfr outputs 500g of thrust. ill just wiat for an AXX or ill just pursuade my dad to let me et one from japan.....mmmmmmmm 500g of thrust

well, ive flown it, and boy do i love the thing! I got a PJS 3D 300 SFR this morning for my birthday along with a few other things and im running a 3s1p kokam 340. i love it. it does everything! tho itys a totally different flying experience to normal 3D as its always stalled, flys even lighter, you need way more rudder and its [i]quiet[/i

first thoughts were dissapointing. i was impatient to fly so i didnt let my lipo get to full charge. wen i cam to fly it i only had about 2 mins of power then the bec slowly cut in. next time i flew i let it charge for ages. it was ballistic. 10 mins of flying!

what faults has it got? a few..............
1. need tri stock down the sides to elimante the twist int he fuz, theres lots even in a simple roll
2. in pos and neg G maneuvers the wing flexes. im going to do liek the shock and add some thin carbon rods to half the wing span to eleminate this
3. going to buy a bigger lipo, need more flying time!

Im thinking of getting a Kokam 700 3s. bu its ony got a 6c disgcharge so thats only 4.2A. is this enough? if anyone can recopmend me another type/brand lipo with a high discharge that wud be great

Also, what if i got 2 3s1p kokam 340s and got a parrelel thing to make it a 3s2p with about 13A discharge and 680mah of capacity? i like that. would it be any good. it would way about the same as a normal 700mah lipo?

The various 830-850 LiPo's which now (mostly) come in at least 10C variant could well be a "sweet spot" for Blade/shockie type planes. irate/Apogee/PolyQuest (and others) all have 10C batteries in this mAh range. They're obviously going to be heavier than 340's but it's a small price to pay for more than twice the duration and they don't sag so much under load so you'd probably get even longer from them as you wouldn't need so much throttle. I've been using 2S Etec 1200 (just cos I had them) and Kokam 3S 340 so far but I'm going to order a number of the Polyquest 850s from www.aircraft-world.com soon as I think they could be the best batteries for my Blade and shockflyer.

Nice edible engine!

I have seen a few of those blades fly and think they're awesome! Maybe if I get one I could fly it in my garden?
