Phoenix 10 programming for Shocky
 

I'm new to electric (fly IMAC normally) and am putting together a Shock Flyer (one Edge and one Extra). My setup is:
Phx 10
Axi2208/34
APC 10x4.7
Hitec Feather
HS-50's
2-cell 700mAh Lipo


I'm looking at the speed control and have no idea what settings to use (or that so many settings were possible!!!). So, my questions are:

1. Low voltage cutoff - the directions say to use 5V for a 2-cell Lipo... I didn't think you were supposed to go below 3V per cell???

2. Current limiting? Leave as standard?

3. Brake type... which to use?

4. Throttle type: I'm assuming Auto Calibrating???

5. Electronic timing advance - I'm using an Axi 2208/34 with a 10x4.7 prop... what to use?

6. Cuttoff type???

7. Soft start???? Do I use this with a direct drive?

Anything else I should know? Important mods to make? What control throws work well?

Sorry so long winded... I'm pretty e-dumb.

Jason,

1. 6V cut-off. I use 3S and select 9V, but my older instructions list the 4S cut-off as 9V and 3S at 7.?V.

2. Leave current limiting alone if you want to protect your investment[8D].

3. No Brake.

4. Auto calibrate.

5. Standard timing advance.

6. I prefer soft cut-off. Helps save the tail when you hit LVC. Hard cut-off and the motor stops completely[:@].

7. Hard start. Best to have the quickest throttle response.

i use full brake on my 3Ders cos i fly so close i often have to cose the throttle quick so it dont chop me!

LOL, I fley my IFO into dads leg, lucky for that curved rod at the front. OUCH!!:D

I never new you could program so many things into an ESC. I am new to electrics and RC and the only esc I have is a Wattage 15 amp, not so brainy it would appear.

Jason, after trying the Standard Advance timing, you may want to try the High Advanced timing. It should give better response and efficiency for the AXi motor as it has 12 poles. I agree with all the other options as posted by ChimChim. I just bought my third Axi motor after running a Razor 350 and Gearbox for a while now. Nice and quiet, no more bent shafts, stripped gears, busted gear housings, etc.
Also, there is a way to reverse the motor mounting without buying the radial mount by taking the motor apart and tapping out the shaft, then install in from the back with a 1/8 inch wheel collar.
And the shaft is 1/8 inch (3.17 mm) meaning you can easily replace it if neccessary. (I had to [X(])
I'm building a mini Extra 300 from Bluecore foam for use with my Axi 2208/34. Going to paint it to kinda match my WildHare Extra!:D
