Is this Ok??
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys .
I want to know your opinion , is there enough contact between the gerabox and the pinion gear. This is my first brushless setup . I can't push the pinion gear more?? |

i would really push in the pinion some more. I had one like that, but if u fly it awhile, it'll strip the spur gear. i've stripped about 3 of them in 8 flights. I can't wait to get the new gearboxes made for them though, it'll be great.
BTW, which himax is that? |

Thanks,
That's a 2015-4100. Are the new gearboxes available I thought they were on backorder. epc. |
RE: Is this Ok??
a bit of thin paper between the cogs gets things right, too close and the friction will slow things down.
for things this small some tissue paper might be better, no not the stuff you wipe your &$$ on |

The GWS gearboxes aren't adjustable as far as gear lash.
What you need is a pinion press, or some creative bench vise utilization to get that pinion on farther. Just make sure you NEVER put any pressure on the motor case, only on the ends of the shaft. |
RE: Is this Ok??
One question, I have that same motor with the same gearbox and I can't find a good way to install the prop, I tried with a nut back and a nut on th efront but it came loose, I tried to put the prop back on without anything behind and the two nuts on front and it wont turn, seems like I pressed the gear a little back. I dunno what to do. Help?

Nut and washer on first, then prop then washer and 2 nuts to double nut the prop on.

ahh i see what you mean now... if your that bothered i'd just push it on the bench. tho the GWS units can be weak on the back of the motor and you might crack it.. in which case just fly as is.
or... take the motor out, put a couple of washers on the back face of the gearbox over the threads and screw the motor back in, it'll move back and give better contact |

If using the BPP adapter the backlash is adjustable with the Himax in the GWS Box. You might check that pinion for a bur inside at the shaft end, I had a stainless pinion with a bur that kept it from going all the way on. You could heat up the pinion a bit, 200 F would real safe, heck its brass drop it in some boiling water and slip it on the shaft before it cools much.
