himax 2015, 4100 or 5400 ?

himax 2015, 4100 or 5400 ? I got 2 packs of 2S 1200 E tecs, I have been thinking of, in the furure, to buy another batt and make 2 packs of 3 cell instead of 3 of 2 cells but its more weight too.

What do you think?

If you are sticking with 2 cells get the 5400 but if you are moving up to 3 then Id get the 4100. I prefer 3 cell setups myself

Yes I think the 4100 with 3 cells is a little stronger.

why ther is lack of information on the 5400 on 3S?

What if I buy the 5400, fly it on 2S and Latter upgrade to 3S??

Thanks!

3s will give crazy amps from what I've read. Guess it's not good.

Here is some info for you concerning the -5400

GWS D Gear, Jeti 18-3P

12x6 + 2S Kokam 1500 = 12 Amps and around 16 - 17 ounces of thrust! I had this in a Mountain Models Tantrum and it would hover at around 3/4 throttle.

10x4.7 + 3S Kokam 1500 = 12 amps and thrust of around 30+ ounces! Hover on the Tantrum was just below 1/2 throttle.

My Tantrum weighed in at 11 oz. without the battery. Climb out on the 2S pack from hover was possible, but it was a little slugish. Climb out of the 3S pack from hover was INSTANT!!! Lauch of the tantrum was done by just dropping the plane with full power applied. The 2S pack had enough pull to then go up vertical to about 300 feet; the 3S would probably had gone to the moon!!!

The 5400 on a 2S pack with the Tantrum liked the 11x4.7 and 12x6, anything less than this was sluggish to not very good. The 10x4.7 on 2S was not bad for lazy flying, but vertical suffered badly! I would NOT reccomend anything less than the 10x4.7 on something like the Tantrum in a D gear setup on a 2S pack! It barely flew with a 9x6!!

The 5400 on a 3S pack is ... is... "Houston We have lift off!!!" I had flown the Tantrum on many 9" combos and found all to be good to about 9x7. The 10x4.7 pushed the Kokam pack to its limit, but the performance was in a word, AWESOME!!!

The 4100 will swing a larger prop than the 5400 on the same gear ratio. But keep in mind that both are 110 watt motors, and max of 15 Amps!!! If you plan on sticking with a 2S OR are planning on using a 6.6:1 or greater gear, then the 5400 is the way to go! Just remember to use a 10x4.7 or smaller with 3S!

The 5400 is a really nice little motor! For airplanes less than 15 ounces, the 5400 with a D gear and a few different props will give you very good performance!!!

Forgot to mention that Prop RPM for 10x4.7 at full power, on D gear, after 5 seconds of run time on a 3S pack was 6500!!!

RE: himax 2015, 4100 or 5400 ?

I have the 4100 on 3s pack with 12-6 prop..on eflite ultimate....CRAZY POWER !!!

Friend has the 5400 on 3s and with 12-6 prop motor was too hot to touch after flight...he went the 10-4.7 and got cooler motor and better thrust but not as good as the 4100...I don't know why !!!

i'll send you a pdf file with thrust info to your email the HG20154166 is the 4100 motor with the himaxx gear box so the model number is diffrent the HG20155466 is the 5400 motor combo.

Daniel,
If you haven't purchased anything yet, I saw a good deal at NE sailplanes weekly specials. 2015-4100 mounted in the maxx products aluminum housing and a CC phoenix 10 ESC for $100.00. I think this is a pretty good price.
