Phoenix-10 controller question

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question I hope you can help with.

I have a CastleCreations Phoenix-10 controller and mainly fly with 3 cell Lipo batteries, therefore I have set the autovoltage cutoff to Option 4 as per the manual. However, I also have a couple of 2 cell packs I like to use. However, whenever I start to fly with the 2 cell pack the motor cuts out due to the lower voltage of only 2 cells.

So, do I have to reprogram the controller every time I switch packs? Can I disable the voltage cutoff altogether and just stop flying when I see the performance reduce??

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I also would like to know the answer to this question.
WHat is the benefit of having an auto shutoff for low voltage?
I figure that the motor will stop long before the receiver ans servos!

Lithium batteries can be damaged of even fail completely if they are discharged below 3 volts per cell. The Phoenix 10 can be programmed for a 4 , 5 , 6 , 7.2, 9 12 volt cutoff. You could set the cutoff at 5 volts--the recommended 2 cell cutoff and carefully monitor your 3 cell pack when flying

Yes, set it for 2 cells but when flying 3 time your flights or land as SOON as the power begins to drop and you'll be okay. Don't run the pack too low or it ruins it.

RE: Phoenix-10 controller question

Early Castle Creation documentation can be mis-leading. Per Castle Creations Technical Support, the correct setup is:
Feature 1 set to 3 = 2-cell Li-Po
Feature 1 set to 5 = 3-cell Li-Po

As voltage cut-off is the first Feature, it's pretty easy to re-program when swapping back and between 2 and 3 cells.
I find it worth the peace-of-mind. However, lots of people get away with leaving it programmed for 2-cells, then simply land when the 3-cell pack looses it's punch.

Regards,
Bob

RE: Phoenix-10 controller question

I just fly till I feel the power drop off. This with the voltage cutoff operating. On recharge they're allways over 11 volts. Same with the 7.4 volt batt.s
