Hell Raiser First Flight
Just wanted to share my impressions. First thing is that the kit is very good. I have already given some feedback to Mike on adding a tail wheel or skid and a overall diagram of battery position, radio position etc. For the first flight I located the battery on the plywood, just in front of the landing gear mount. The balance point worked out well.
I also found that foam safe CA is not a good choice for the general foam to foam gluing. I used GWS glue. Using exactly the set up recommended. AXI 2208/34 with 10X3.8 Appogee 3S 830 lipo Phoenix 10 Electron 6 with half a case AUW came in at 11.6 oz just like they say. Flight impressions: Wow! Straight up. Trim was within two clicks of the elevator. The most amazing rolls, like it was on a thread. One has to be comfortable with combo aileron- elevator turns. The aileron will not turn it without giving it some up to bring it around. But I am really looking forward to working on my knife edge and hovering with this plane. It is a natural. This is the first AXI motor I have had and I am in love with it too. It is so quiet, and swings less prop than the Himax 4100 6:1 geared setup I have, but same 20oz thrust. I have to say it is nice to get to a level in flying where after the first 3 flights, the airplane looks like it just came out of the box. Larry |

would an e-flight park 400 fly it good?

RE: Hell Raiser First Flight
No that is too heavy. It has taken me a while to get used to this electric stuff, but remember that the power comes from the battery, not the motor. The reason Mike recommends the AXI is it is very efficinet at generating 20 oz of thrust with a 830 3s lipo and keeps the model light.
It seems like at every weight class, I end up with a different solution to the battery / motor / prop issue. You do not want to build a heavy Hell Raiser, it doesn't have the structure to go above 14oz, and you will loose a lot of performance. Larry |
