quick shock flyer question
 

I hear Shocky, Shock Flyer, and Foamy used quite a bit. Is a Shock Flyer a specific plane? Is a Shocky the same thing or a general term, shocky?

If i do a search on google i get Shock Flyer This and Shock Flyer That, but in the forum i see people saying the ShockFlyer is the best foamy of the year?

shockflyer is a specific airplane. shocky is a nickname for them. foamies are all the sheet foam electric category together. We sure do take something so easy and make it difficult don't we??:D

Also, "The Shockflyer" design was the first to use a cross section that looks like a "+" when viewed from the front. This is a very strong and light way to make the 3mm or 6mm depron planes and allows a lot of new design possibliites for motor mount and fuselage bracing. To my knowledge, Martin Muller is the originator of this, and judging from his video dated jan of 2003, he's been using that design scheme for quite some time.

Now, if a design is "shocked" it often means it uses that style fuselage. You'll see this being borrowed many places.

But the original "shockies" were a series of 3 planes designed by Martin Muller, and marketed by Ikarus. These were the "Extrema Extra", "Edge 540" and the "Superstar" Shockflyers. There are new Ikarus designs coming to market right now. Make no mistake, "the shockflyer" started a revolution for lightweight, great performing indoor flyers.

Does the name shockflyer come from the shock of flying it or is it an electrical thing or something else? Sorry to bore everyone with this history lesson. Curiosity.

I wondered that myself. I think something got lost in the translation from German to English. It's not the most flattering name -- especially if someone thinks it's shocking to fly. Thats' probably why most guys just call them "shockies."
