mini katana

I can't seem to find the mini katana anywhere in these forums. Can anybody give me a website. I've only seen this plane briefly. It is transparent purple and white. I don't think they are for sale yet however, I do want to put my name on the waiting list to get one. I have been thinking about getting a bigger katana, but I think I will settle for a small one. Hopefully in the next couple months I can look for a patty for a bigger plane. My first choice was the mini funtana, its a really sweet looking plane. I just want to be different, besides I kinda like the transparent purple. If I remember correctly the wings are removable and will be sold as a combo also.[X(]
Thanks for any help you may be in leading me to this little plane.

RE: mini katana

OK so instead of replying to so many emails here some info about PA Katana mini:
We have been working on this project for the last 15 months and designed the plane with no saving on selected materials, hardware and accessories in order to bring up into the R/C market with one of the finest models available today.
We are into quality more than anything else with no compromising.

It has a pretty big diameter carbon fiber wing tube that fits inside a bigger diameter carbon fiber a long wing socket that provides outstanding strength in construction. Leading edge and fuselage strings are made of carbon fiber. It includes also carbon fiber landing gear that is done with a high temperature mould to make it strongest and lightest as possible. This also keeps the carbon awesome texture (makes it significantly more expensive to produce). Wheel axles are made of carbon and we provide the plane with the coolest CNC machined carbon fiber control horns that are very easy to install and looks fantastic.
Another thing you provide is carbon fiber pushrods that are very strong and there is no flexibility what so ever. The canopy by the way is not like the prototype – it is going to be tinted (like our larger models as the Edge 540T and Extra 42%). It was hard to get the lightest material for the canopy so the proto had a clear one but now we are working on the new canopy.
Wheel pants and cowl are made of pre-painted fibreglass. We used for covering a new great looking lightweight covering.
Since we design big planes so you can say we treat this “baby” like it was one of our giant models. We love this project.

We are now testing the model with different set ups every day. We are changing the gearboxes to find the chosen one. We are still working on a new carbon gearbox which will be available in the future. Another future project is carbon fiber 3D prop.
Of course we also spent many hours of research after a good lithium setup and we have our own OEM high discharge packs to offer. We will offer the plane as combo as well, that is why we haven’t advertised the prices yet, as we are working on this matter. Needless to say that we will have tempting introductory price.
We are working on and testing all the specs now so there might be changes (remember it is a prototype). More information, flight review and movie will be available on our webpage.

Availability of the model is not final especially because of our quality control procedure but production will start in about 3-4 weeks.

Still no word on my plane yet!!!!! I just found out today that we can fly electric airplanes on wednesday night inside one of the Local HIgh Schools. ( in the gym) Wish my mini katana was on the way. I might have to break down and buy another lil electric till they get here.

RE: mini katana

Hey Sam

Did you get the update by email that we send to all the guys on the waiting list early last week?

If you didn't here it is:

So first update on the construction - we changed the servos location in the wing per customers' requests to be on the bottom.

In regards to the set up: no news yet as we are still testing the many options to find the ultimate one. Don't worry we will offer you all the accessories needed for the model at great prices with the planes.

As you know the Katana mini includes lots of carbon parts and goodies. It is the state of the art design and construction so it is not cheap to manufacture. For example we use carbon fiber wing tube (not a thin carbon rod). The tube fits in carbon fiber socket in the fuselage and in the wing (not a fibreglass one). It makes the plane much stronger and light, but of course cost some $$. The landing gear is high quality carbon fiber (with the carbon texture and beautiful finish).

The Katana mini will be available in few color schemes so few flyers can fly it together.

Also we will offer some upgrades such as carbon fiber wheel pants and other extras.

The US introductory price in the states would be $109. We will advertise the combo prices and specification later on.

High discharge rate lithium polymer packs would be available in a special price when purchasing the model.

We will update you with the details of your US/ Germany/UK dealers (per your country) soon so forget about shipping cost from Australia. It would be shipped in your own country J

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

THIS IS A 40", 25 OZ PLANE. Unless you have an extremely large gym I don't think this is an indoor flyer.

You need a 2025 series.

I'm running a 2025-5300 with cobri GB @6.6:1 11x4.7, or 12x3.8, CC Phoenix 25 and Tanic Packs 3s1p 2220
This is the setup recommended by Jeff at E-Flightline and he says it will have plenty of power to 3D.

RE: mini katana

The weights of the FM and KM are similar with the KM having an advantage over the FM in wing area and stability. With the weights being the same, a setup that works well on the FM will power the KM equally well, except you will have a better plane with the KM due to lighter wing loading and smarter design.

When it comes to power, If it works on the FM, expect similar performance on the KM. Like I said, the difference will be in how it flys and that's where the KM will smoke the FM!!!!!

RE: mini katana

hello all, i had the Blue Katana Mini that flew several times at SEFF ( between wind gusts) this is another one of PA's great lookin arf's!!!! the plane went together vert easily, the motor box system that they have designed for this plane is great, if you want to use an outrunner you use the whole box but if you are using a gb system as i did you cut away a small section and add the motor stick which has the motor thrust made into it!!! i used an Himax 2025-5300 with a corbi gb. i had to do some work to get my ratio right for my motor. i don't know what the deal with my motor was but it seemed to be on seriords!!! i used the 6.6:1 ratio as novabill did and it was pulling too many amps!!! so jeff at eflightline helped me out and i ended up with a 7.7:1 ratio running a 13x6e prop and pulling only 22 amps and 250 watts!!! due to the fact that i had a preperduction plane it was about 2 ounces heavier than the ones everyone else got but it still came out a 28 ounces and i was usinf a 3 cell tanic 2450 pack that weighed 6 ounces!!! i used a cc25 hitec electron 6 channel receiver and blue bird 371 servos. i flew this plane the first time a local school yard and it flew great it had so much power it was scarry!!! i flew like a pattern plane. the lines it drew were so great!!! it hovered pretty good and took a bit to get it to tourque roll. but over all the KM is a great flying plane. a guy offered me a pretty good amount of $ so i couldn't pass it up plus i wanted to do another one with diffrent gear!!! i hope to have another at SEFF this coming yea and i will have an e Bad Boy also by PA!!!
