Tensor question
 

Hello everyone. I have a quick repair question. I built my tensor with a HIMAX 2812 outrunner. About the only way to mount it is to screw it to the rear of the plywood mountplate that comes with the kit and mount that out on the very end of the nose. In other words the mount is on the front of the motor versus on the rear of the AXI motors, Anyway, like I said the plate was mount way out on the very end of the nose of the plane. Well, I dumb thumbed and broke the nose off of it. Where the vertical and horizontal fuse glues together is all fine, it is just the extensions that stick out on each part. I have all the foam piesce that i can glue on there, but it was kind of weak before, and I dont know if I would trust it after repairing it. Is there a better way I can mount the motor like using contest grade balsa and carbon fiber cloth. I dont know if that would work but I am open for any suggestions that you may have. The motor mount can be reversed to it can mount on the front of the firewall.

hey all,
I had an Ikarus shockflyer and I put a axi 2208/34 in it. Its like yours becuase the motor must be mounted from the front, And i had it bolted to a plywood sheet that I cut slots in and glued to the very front of the plane. The foam had almost no strenght, and the motor was so strong that the tourqe just riped up the front of the plane and now the fuselage is unfixable. I wanna replace the ikarus with the tensor and the question is
how do I mount the motor on the tensor without havin the same problem?

Ill tell you what I did. First took the saw and cut 2 inches off the nose of the plane. Then I took some cntest grade balsa and liminated it with carbon fiber, but I left the carbon fiber a little long. I drilled 2 hole in the back of each peice of balsa and inserted a peice of carbon rod. I left it long so the other end of the rod would be pushed in to foam. Basicall it look like engine rail mounted on the front of the plane. But they have carbon fiber rods running between the rails and the plane. Then I took the carbon fiber laminate and layered it over the foam that the balsa is joined to. Now the front of the plane is very very strong and is still very light. Ill try to take some pics of it and post to give you a better idea.

As Foamaholic said the motor can be reversed for mounting and best of all it's really easy to do. I broke my prop shaft and it only took me about 5 minutes to replace it. It wouldn't take any longer to take the prop shaft loose and move the set screw in teh back and the clip on the front so the prop shaft comes out theback instead of the front. Then you can mount the motor to the firewall with the included mount.

Well sure you could do that if you wanted to do it the easy way. But why in the world would you do that. JK, thanks for the info. I didnt say thanks to faomaholic earlier. If i break the nose off of the tensor again, then Ill redo the nose and flip the shaft. But I predict that if I break the nose off this time, then the nose is the least of my worries, because that puppy is on there this time.

You got it on there good. I always try not to land on the nose. Doesn't always happen that way though.

Tell me about it. I hover it and try to grab the wing and it still ends up on the nose. Of course, I have noticed that there are somedays that nothing seems to go right. I guess I have those everyday HAHA. But you know something. I have glued the nose on twice, glued the elevator and rudder counterbalnce on once each, glued the entire plane behind the wing twice, added carbon fiber here and there and it still flys just as good as the day I test flew it. Im gonna beat this one all up and get me a new one after I learn all the squirelly aspects of this plane.

Yes, that's what is nice about foam. Easy and quick to repair, and still flies great.
Can't see myself going back to balsa after years of it, foam is just too easy and more fun wthout so much worry about crashing.

It is an awesome plane, but it does fly very different. It is best to use the rudder to turn the plane. If you roll the plane on its side, it will continue to fly that way without losing any altitude. Actually, for some weird reason, mine climbs hands off in knife edge. It beats all I have ever seen. Anyway, it takes a few flights to get used to it, but after that it is sweet!

one word: NICE!
i have a pretty big backyard, but its surrounded by trees. thats how i lost my first shocky, (oops) doin a low flyby and went right into a tiny pine tree. oh well, it sounds like the tensor will be better any way:D
