Tensor 4D
I was given a Tensor 4D as a gift from a student of mine. Now what motor and esc can I use that will carry me into future electrics in this class. Would like it to be able to handle 3S too. Looking forward to gettin back into electric.

ORIGINAL: Edwin I was given a Tensor 4D as a gift from a student of mine. Now what motor and esc can I use that will carry me into future electrics in this class. Edwin I used a [link=http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=5162]Himax 2808-980 [/link] and a [link=http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=5363]Torque 26T[/link] on an Apogee 3S 830 and Thunderpower 3S 930 battery. Excellent performance and either of these motors can be adapted to planes in the 11-14oz category for 3D and 15-18 oz for normal sport. I have some video that I can upload later if you care to see the performance of this power system on a Tensor. -Mike |

RE: Tensor 4D
Edwin, If you are willing to spend the money you can get the best of the best (as you probably already know) I am running an AXI 2208/34, Jeti 8 amp, Thunder power 1320 mAH, and 730 mAH. It is straight up verticle with authority;) But like anything else in the world something is always wrong.
The bad thing about my setup is I dont have my prop size dialed in yet (as I just found out last night) Right now I am using a APC 10X3.8. My dad brought home his watt meter and I tested it all out. I have WAY too much prop. My motor is trying to draw way too much current from my little 730. The 730 is rated for 7amps to9 amps to 13amp bursts. and at just above 3/4 throttle I was at about 12amps[&:]----I have been flying this plane with this battery for over 3 months now[X(] I am absolutely amazed my batt. hasnt blown up in the air. I am also amzed my ESC and motor havent burnt up all crispy and stuff yet. The Moral of the story is go get a watt meter and a bunch of props[&o] My tensors AUW is 11.32 ounces w/ 730 Good Luck! |
RE: Tensor 4D
Tylerman,
You should be swinging an 8x3.8 or at the most a 9x3.8 with good throttle control. These are the same props I use on the himax and torque motors. (disregard what the video says) Mike |
RE: Tensor 4D
oh yeah!! Thats what I'm looking for. Some low pucker factor fun away from giant scale. Just shreaded one of my bandito grande's thru the power lines at the north end of our field. Depth perception is a terrible thing. Ruined a gas motor.
Mike, did you do any of the carbon fiber reinforcing that was talked about on rcgroups? Edwin |
RE: Tensor 4D
Mike, Yeah I got a few different props to experiment with-- I think that my dad picked up a APC 9x4E and an 8x4E just to experiment.
Edwin, I reinforced the tail with some CF rod as soon as I possibly could- The tail section of the fuse twists around like a wet noodle if you dont do any reinforcing. The roll rate acually sped up. The sad thing about the tensor is that it rolls pretty slowly. I about ready to ditch my tensor and move on to that new Yak 54f from E-flight. My dad flys one of these and this plane flies REALLY good. He calls the tensor a box kite with a motor:eek: |
RE: Tensor 4D
Edwin,
I ran some flat carbon down the horizontal stab from front to the rear. Another Tensor owner used some extra depron and made a V-brace. It eliminated all twist and would be the way I would go if I were to do another. Tylerman, I think that 8x4 might be the ticket :). I love my Yak. I am running the 26T in it at the moment. Good power and excellent performer. [link=http://epowerflight.com/Media/Parsons-QQ-YAK2.wmv]qqyak[/link] |
RE: Tensor 4D
Yes I hope that one of those props save all my gear:eek:
The QQyak is an amazingly well flying plane. It is by far the best I have ever flown. Too bad my dad slammed his yak into an 18 wheeler the other day when he was flying during his lunch break at work.[&o] |
RE: Tensor 4D
what carbon fiber re-inforcing? i am considering getting one of these as i was very unhapy with my other foamy, and i flew one of these and it was like magic. i could do rolling "circles" that were a single roll per revolution with so tight a radius that if it were not rolling, it could have been bolted at the wingtip. it was so cool! would anyone be willing to trade one of these for an almost new himax 2015-4100 plus a few bucks?
