Eflight Ultimate ???
can anyone give me some brushless set-up idea's ? best motor, esc, and so on. or any tips i might wanna know!....thanks

I am using the EFlite 370 inrunner (4100Kv), EFlite 20 amp ESC, and 6.6 gearbox with great success. This is the recommended setup from Horizon... You can find all of these parts from the EFlite Ultimate's page at horizonhobby.com...

The H9 Ultimate was the first electric foamy for me. On the advise of one of our club members, who is an electric "guru", I chose the following set up:
Himax 2015-4100 with the D gear (the C gearing works great too) and an E-flite 12x6 SF prop. I used a CC Phoenix 25 esc and a TP 1320 3-cell li-po batt. This set up worked great and had power to spare. Part of the reasoning behind this set up is that it is also a good combination for other 3D planes which is a good thing to keep in mind when purchasing any gear. If you're looking for an outrunner set up, a Himax 2812-0850 with either a APC 10x3.98 or APC 11x4.7 prop will work great too with the same esc and batt. Both Himax motors are "stick mount" and fits right in to the nose set up on the Ultimate. A hacker A20-20L would also be dynamite on this plane although you would have to modify the mounting on the plane. As far as tips, keep it in the air as it doesn't handle too much abuse. The lower wing is mounted very close to the bottom of the fuse and this is one of its weak areas. You will find that you will be repairing both the front and back of the fuse under the wing cut out. A little strip of 1/16" balsa on each side of the fuse in both locations will help. When banking right or left using ailerons - get ready for rudder input as well. The 3mm foam control surfaces flex alot and this is part of the reason you will have to use rudder in turns. All in all it is a neat little bipe to start with. When you're ready for a more "serious" 3D foamy bipe, check out our 6mm depron Double Trouble. It is in a similar size/price range and you can use the same gear mentioned above. Good luck! |

for the landing gear, i chose to drill some holes to allow use of tie straps, then glued it all over with pro bond. havent had any problem.
my setup is a eflite 400 with C gearing i believe, 800 3s2p's and CC 10 on 10x4.7 prop. pulls 11 amps at full power only. i love the ultimate, alot stronger than my shockies. i also did a single aileron servo setup. fwiw, |

Basically they are before and after mod shots. Note cross pieces of CF rod behind the motor and the flat CF on the leading edges of the wings. Big improvement in strength without adding too much weight. Also, triangle balsa stock under the lower wing will help keep it together. Bob |

The Himax set up with the CC Phoenix 25 would be a good match for the Ultimate. If you go with the 12" prop just keep an eye on the motor and batt temperature when flying. A 10x3.98 prop will give the longest flight time but with less thrust than some of the other prop combinations. The 11x4.7 prop is probably the better combination when considering flight time vs. motor and batt temps. There are some other great combo deals on the same site so browse around and find one that works for you. |

use a dollar between the meshes for correct spacing ...i love my park370 4100kv, 6.6.1 gearbox , 1320 li po ,20 amp esc, 11x8 prop ,(3) hs-55 servos.......never had any problems and hovers my yak at 50% throttle ............for outdoor use |

Well with over 28 hours flight time on my Eflite Ultimate, 2 crashes and 1 inverted landing okay another crash the weak spots I found were the bottom wing mount, the motor mount carbon rod and the CA glue joints. I have added 2 3" balsa 3/16"x1/2" triangle stock under the bottom wing, used epoxy on each of the wing glue joints since the real issue I had was the CA was simply not holding well enough and I injected CA around the first 5” of the motor mount carbon rod. Using epoxy on the wing glue joints has produced a much stiffer aircraft and added an unnoticble difference in weight when it comes to flying, but it did make the plane more predictable in flight, I think due to less flexing. Mine weighs 14.4oz with a HiMax 2812-0650, CC10 ESC, JR610UL Rx, 4 GWS servos and a TP 1320mah 3S1P li-po and it flies great. 11oz even without the battery. I only fly outside so a bit heavier is okay with me.
Oh yeah I did have 1 other problem recently. 1 of the aileron servos came loose in flight producing a very hard airplane to fly, happened during a harrier about 12” off the deck. The servo was mounted with the double sided tape and the tape held fine. However, the covering on the depron had come loose from the foam and the servo was moving all around with any input. With nearly 30 hours of flight time on this little foamy I think it’s almost time to retire it. I wanted a 3DFOAMY Advantage bipe, but they have now gotten too big for my motor/ESC so I will probably get a bipe from Fancy Foam. BTW, I get 20+ minute flights with my setup, about 15 of that being 3D flying. |

just finished mine less than 10 minutes ago. waiting for the rain to stop to go test fly it. i have an eflite 370 outrunner brushless. 3 cell 750 batery. 10x3.8 ap prop. just testing it in the garage in my hands it becomes waitless at half power so it shoul fly well. o and it came in at 11.8 ounces.

The Ulti was my first flat foamy; Horizon recommended the 3600kv inrunner Park370, 20A Eflite ESC, and Eflite 1200 3S1P lipo. Everything worked fine, but I wish I had the 4100kv motor-the 3600 is a little low on power for the 13.4oz plane with either a 11x4.7 or a 12x6. The plane itself is ok, but for being designed by an aeronautical engineer there are a couple of glaring faux pas: one aileron servo is enough if you put it inverted in the front of the top wing, and the horns linking the upper and lower ailerons create a terrible geometry problem among the four ailerons, making them travel different amounts up/down and upper/lower. The durability of the foam material is disappointing; since the Ulti I have built other foamies that are much better designed with better materials....Jim
