Desperately Need Help With Setup
 

Ok, I have flying experience with nitros, and Im almost completly clueless with electrics. I have already built the [link=http://www.foamyfactory.com/airplanes.htm]foamy factory[/link] ulitmate bipe(30in wingspan) and I have no clue what size prop or gearing to use. Any suggestions??

Wait a little longer and go brushless, but if u absolutely can't spend under $60 on a brushless motor with ESC then go with one of the GWS geared 370s.

BOB he was stressing you to get a brushless motor, trust us you want brushless.

also that battery will fry the motor pretty quickly...... it will work...for a while... but by the time you replace it for the 3rd time, you could have bought the brushless...

I tried all sorts of brushed setups.... bite the bullet and skip it....;)

And away we go! Which car brand do you perfer? There are so many opinions out here you will not believe it. Go down to your local mag shop and buy a "Backyard Flyer" July isue and do some homework. Tower's Elecrifly stuff is OK. Why do you want a gearbox. Not needed with decent equipment (brushless) Use recommended prop with motor, APC 10-3.,8 or 4 is good start, if seems too much for the motor, getting a little hot, cut it down to 9 etc. If you are flying glow now, look at all the stuff needed to get the thing flying, starter, glow driver, charger. For electric, you will need a good charger, suggest GP trinatron which will work for li-po, ni-cad, NMH, and even charg your flight box. Its cheep compaired to thrashing around and spending your money on a bunch of cheaper chargers that will not work for what you need. Fry one battery and the cheep charger is out the window. There is lots of good info and people in the RCU forums that have learned the hard way. There just does not seem to be a substitute. You will eventially have to buy a meter analyzer like the AST-101 super whatt meter or medusa power analyzer. Tells you how your chosen setup is actuallly working and saves big problems in overdrawing motors, battery or controller. You can try to buy some used stuff on RCU or e-bay, usually you will get had to a point a new purchase is still the best buy. There are losts of exceptions and great honest sellers and discount houses available, just have to find them. I love the guys at tti7, Tom Tuong on e-bay. They are sailplane people, but no ones perfect. Don't you have a e-flyer in your club? Get to know him even if he is a little strange, most e-flyers are, but good and helpfull people in general. The more questions you ask, the more money you will save and hopefully get into the air without grief. Good luck.
