cap 580 flatout
 

I wish I would have read some posts before I bought it. Anyways I,m thinking that epoxy throughout would be beneficial for strength but will it hinder the performance. I have foam safe ca and numerous types of pu including gorilla. It is my first flat or fuse type ship and really don't know what the majority of you are using....any thoughts

I used epoxy (sparingly) for much of mine. Mainly, for the carbon tubes, and where the braces pass through the wing. I managed to have a plane that weighed 8oz. w/cdrom power and a 2-cell batt. I think that CA is just too brittle for those things. My Cap was a pretty nice flyer...unfortunately, the wind took her straight in recently and it was a write-off. You can't crash these things very hard.

some how i ended up buying the cap 580 on a impulse buy ..im stuck with this cap 580 that everyone says sucks....OUCH!!.... i got the 1000kv rimfire but i guess this doesnt matter because the wings are placed to low ...right?...so should i put this thing together differently or what???.......perhaps more carbon spars along the fuse ....any advise to make this thing fly as nice as my yak does???

I have the Flatout Cap 580 with the Rimfire motor, and a Shock Flyer Yak-54.
I do think the Yak is the better plane, but the Cap is fun too. All I did to the Cap was add tape to the hinges and reinforce the landing gear, also I installed 2 inch diameter ultra-lite wheels.
I fly off a grass field and have had plenty of bad landings, the cap is holding up well so far.
My Cap 580 weighs 10.6 oz. with a 900 mah 3 cell. The Yak-54 is 9.9 oz. with the same battery.
I'm just saying that I think the Cap 580 Flatout is not as bad as some people say it is and I would build it and see for yourself. Plus they are so colorful and pretty looking in the air, that adds a bit of fun.

i use the gearbox on the yak so this outrunner will make me feel special

I've got a Flatana, so I don't know too much about how the Cap flies, but let me tell you, these things don't fly like foamies, they fly like 1/3 scale beasts. And I mean that in a good way. I've got the stock motor running on a 3S 850 pack, and it'll hover at half without any trouble. It's made of very stiff foam, and you can feel the difference in the air. They fly too fast to be excellent indoor planes, but outdorrs even in 15 mph. wind slice through it like you wouldn't believe.

I have the cap580 with the brushless setup and I like it, I put it together per the instructions with the only prob. I found being that there is a tech note you need to look for on thier website about the elevator control horn.
Other than that it is a blast to fly... I dont really understand why all these people say it suck's?

it was my first "foamie" plane and not the last
i liked it but as someone else said you have to build them light
too much weight (lots 0 CA) will afect the way this plane fly's
oh yeah epoxy the motor mount to the fw.

well mine mt it's demise yesterday, I was ringing it out and got carried away and did'nt realize that I was that close to the power line's and somehow I managed to hit them, oh well I WILL get another one these are fun!

lol, i had a shockflyer get overcome by the wind and ended up hitting the prop on the power like atleast 6 times and i managed to "fly" her back to me in one piece with about half an inch missing off of one of the blades!!! i dont know how but i did.



as for the cap 580...ive had mine for about a month now and the only porblems i experienced were the roll/elevator coupling with the rudder (hey it'l make me a better pilot) and on the rimfire motor the prop saver is too big for gws props and was causeing the prop to go off center and vibrate the plane at more than 1/2 power...so i hade to drill out all my props to fit the propsaver =X more of a convienence issuse. but other than that i love how they give you servo horns that let you have some sick thows...see pic =P

The wind is what did mine in. Was doing some low to the ground stuff, and the wind gusted and put it straight in. Kind of looked like like the pics above. I probably could have fixed it, but was itching to try something else anyway. I just got the reflection, and that is one sweet plane.

i tried the 12x6 prop on my 4100kv yak54f and it flew like it was heavy and landed real hard even sounded weird!...........i dont know why e-flight recommends the 12x6 with the 4100kv ...but i found that the 11x8 which is the prop i used in the first place is the best one for the 4100kv....

now the 1000kv rimfire needs something way smaller so the 9x3.6 is the prop that makes this cap580 land soft and hover still .............right ? Emo are you happy with the cap580's ability with this prop & have you tried any other sizes on this bird?

Zagiflyer, the prop saver is double sided. One's for GWS props, and one's for the one it came with and APC props.

yes, you are correct, but i believe you are refering to the propsvaer that comes with the kit for the stock motor, the sliver one. The prop saver on the rimfire is part of the can and cannot be removed or flipped around.

Oh. I didn't realize they were different. I am actually using a GWS 350C motor on a D (6.6:1) gearbox with the propsaver. I'm considering putting the stock motor it comes with in the 6.6:1 gearbox and getting a 12x6 or 11x4.7 prop for more thrust. THis thing flies a lot faster than my Nikitis Animal does, and I like it, but you can never have too much thrust.

a 9x3.8 APC on my flight instructor's CAP 580 with the rimfire gave it pretty good thrust.

i cant even start building my cap 580 because my hobby shop is out of CA glue[:o] and RedRocket Hobbies still hasnt sent me my ESC (on backorder for 2 weeks now):(

Hey, I bought one in the US on vacation and am currently building it. You can use normal ZAP CA Med. instead of other stuff that says it doesnt eat foam. I skrewed it up pretty badly though and misjudjed the fuse. Fixt it though so its all good. Its my 2nd plane after the .46 NexStar. C'mon guys continue the thread I am lacking info........
