problems with himax 980
On the firsts flights of my new motor, when the batts (3s lipos) aproach to 11.0 v the motor revs down a lot in somewhat about 5 secs, seems to fail mantaining power
My setup is a himax 2808 980 BP10A controler (running cool) and GWS 1000Mah lipos on a 11x 3,8 APC prop; I have measured 8,6 amps at full power and full batts, would it be to much prop for the battery? Couriously I have measured 8,8 amps on a gws 10x4,7prop so, I`m a little confused because I have expected less draw... I resist the idea to prop down to a 9 x 4,7 it would be a significant power loss Any comments will be apreciated Daniel |
RE: problems with himax 980
The 11x3.8 is kinda too much for that motor unless you wanna run 2S only. I am running the 10x3.8 on the 2816 for 3S. Why not something like the 9x4.5? What plane are you flying? You can use the 10x4.7 or 10x3.8 but try to resist going on full throttle for long.

RE: problems with himax 980
hi max are great motors. but i found they do get very hot when loaded up with a large prop on high volts. i was using a 10x4.7sf apc on and 8.4v nimh pack it ran fine. when i stuck a 1050 11.1v on it it was not very hot but i did notice heat. went down to a apc 9x3.8 slow fly prop and it pulls as hard as ever. its its too hot on the power setting you like try the next one up, like the 28/12

RE: problems with himax 980
I have plugged the battery al 11.0 v after less than ten secs of full throtle It fails, I have measured 8,6v but quickly going up as 0,1v/sec, is this a failure or lack of capacity ???
Ps: It also fails on a 9x4,7 gws prop |
RE: problems with himax 980
It may be lack of capacity ... happened to me before, used some cheapo lipoly's and it would cut after a while, changed to better ones and it was fine. You motor is good for a 9x5 or 10x3.8.
