Picked up one last night from the HS. Half done already. Looks like a sweet plane. I like it!

Mine flies well, but nothing compared to the E-Flight Yak. I used the outrunner 400 and it almost seems a little under powered. I'm thinking maybe the new 450 might be better. It seems to have alot of coupling, but I still need to make adjustments. It sure does look good though, especially harriering around with the formed fuse.

RYguy, I was thinking of stealing one of my friends ideas, and put a snowman in there made out of those styrofoam balls.

richohealey,
The 2.4ghz freq that the spektrum operates on is the same freq wi-fi works on. So its accepted internationally, and can be used in most foreign countries....which is kinda nice.

I have a Hacker A20-20L sitting on my desk here, just dying to go one something. I spotted this Ultimate and it looks enticing. Anyone have any ideas about matching this motor with this plane?
I have the A20-20L also, let me know how it works out

I just picked up one yesterday and man its a very fast build. My question is, will the eflite outrunner 400 have enough power? I am looking at the 450 and am not sure if it would be to large. I just had the Eflite Yak an loved it with the 400 outrunner, if you could let me know what you guys think that would be great.

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

I have the outrunner 400 in mine and I would say get the 450. It flies the plane ok, but if you want good vertical performance go with the 450. Mine hovers just above half throttle, but pull out is nothing like my E-Flight Yak.

Ok...Picked up the 450 today, I was just wanting to know where on the plane you are putting the battery. I am thinking it will be a bit nose heavy with the 450.... any ideas? Thanks Duane

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

I originaly put my battery in the compartment where they recomend it, but it seemed nose heavy with wing rock in harrier. I then moved it to bottom of the fuse just behind the aileron servo and it seems allot better. I am running a 1500 mah battery though so it was heavier than recommended.. Not sure how yours will be with the 450, guess you'll just have to try it.

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

Well, flew mine today, 4 flights. Powered with the E-flite 400 inrunner on 1320 li-po it flew very well 'specially considering we had 15 mph winds today. Probably was a little nose heavy but like I said, flew well.

I swearing off foamies though, even nice ones like this one. Took the landing gear off the plane every time I landed it and there wasn't a bad landing in the bunch, just 1&1/2 inches of grass. Then, one time I decided to land it without the landing gear, even bigger mistake. The aeleron pushrods dug into the grass on landing & messed up the wing. I got this thing to fly around in the yard but I might as well have got a glow plane. Cost of keeping it in the air would be cheaper.

I put the 450 in mine and I have the battery in the front, it seems to be ok on the CG I am goin to flight it tomrrow...if the winds die down.

[:o][>:] I Just love the weather in Iowa it was raining in the morning and then it stop and got windy....by the time the winds died down it was geting dark....got to love it. Sunny and mid 60s on Wed. (my day off) so I will try to get my ultimate out then. I did move the battery back in the inside on to the wing, to move back the CG.

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

We had beautiful weather for flying on Sunday. I decided on a whim to take the electrics to the field with me & I hate to say it but I was impressed with the little ultimate. With the Park flyer 400 & a 1320 batt she flew extremely well & best of all it looks like a real airplane in the air! Spins & loops were a thing of beauty but Hovering eats battery time. Even on very short grass it does not like to land though. I found landing on the paved road to be the ticket. Also flew my E-flite Funtana yesterday. The foamy Ulti loops & spins better but the Funtana is much more enjoyable (to me). Both planes will fly in a fair amount of wind but when there is no wind they really come into their own.

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

I maidened mine yesterday. As I mentioed before in this thread I put a geared HiMax 4100 in mine. It flies marginal, at best. Now I need to stop at my LHS after work to buy me an E-Flite 400 that plugs right into the provided platic gearbox. How many of you guys fly that set up? Is it worth spending $54.00 for it?

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

Thats the same setup I have. Use a big battery to get long flight times, other then that the performance is right where it needs to be. I used the prop that came in the kit but I think a 12X3.5 would give better hovering capabilities.

Thanks, cstevec
I try to get some comparison figures for those two motors but haven't been successful yet.

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

Hey fellas, I have built and flown one recently and so far so good. Equiped it with E-flite 370 4200kv inrunner with provided gearbox and 12 x 6 prop, phoenix 25 esc, and TP 1320mah 3cell li-po, and three Hi-Tec HS-55's. Balanced at about 100mm with bat and esc up front and think it would be a better 3d performer if balanced at 90mm. Good take off power from pavement. Flight was smooth and responsive even with 5-8 mph breezes. It does couple towards the belly real bad in knife edge, but changing CG will help. My first two flights had good vertical climbs at 3/4 throttle and hovered at a little over half. Hovering seems like it will be a blast on calmer days. Crawls in for landings. I did notice after 2 good flights my motor was hot. I think cutting another air channel in the cowling and propping down to a 11 X 4.7 will help this. This setup I used is recommended in the Horizon Hobby ads. If the proper cooling can be reached, I think this is a great power setup. Was pulling about 14 amps with 12 X 6 prop. An 11 X 4.7 will take it down to 12 amps which is perfect. Will report more as soon as weather complies. Godspeed!

I maidened mine yester day with the out runner 400 and a 1500 bat with the provided prop and it didn’t want to climb at all I could fly it fine but when I went vertical it would just sit there for a second then stall This is my first electric so I was thinking maybe that’s just how it is but I think something is wrong any one running this set up what prop should I be using?

Nanner1 im running the 400 outrunner in my yak54f with apc 11x4.7 and a 1200 lipo. electrics have good power and it should be able to hover and keep going vertical/your battery is probally a little heavy.. and you say your running stock prop? it comes with a 12x6 for use with the gearbox.. if you reamed out that prop for use with the 400 outrunner your overproped. they spec the plane for up to a 1320 lipo heres what my yak flys like with this set up. http://media.putfile.com/Yak54F-Flying .

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

I changed the prop to a 10 4.7 (lhs dident have any 11 4.7) and still weak on the vertical heres a crazy thougth seeing as it is cheaper for me to go buy an outrunner 450 than a 1300 lipo would this fix the problem or do i need to just git the lighter lipo $20 price dirrence dam i didnt realiz how touch electics ar about weight almost like a woman

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

Nanner1 if your running the 400 outrunner.. e-flite outrunners come with aluminum prop adapters the plane should have decent performance with the rite prop/you say you have a 1500 pack. im assuming lipo depending on what the pack weighs that could affect performance also. e-flites recomendations are usually rite on and if you run there set up you shouldnt have a problem with performance. from earlier post it looked like you used the 12x6 prop for inrunner gearbox set up. 12x6 is the prop that is listed as coming with the plane. i dont know what your plane weighs or if your using a fullsize reciever. weight is important in any plane.. ive seen .90 size funtanas powered by an out runner that would leave a nitro funtana in the dust going vertical. if your using a higher end radio make sure your endpoint is set to max for esc. without seeing it fly im not sure. could just be you really expect a lot out of it. the video i posted is of the yak.. which is a little lighter but shouldnt have a night and day difference in performance. im running 400 outrunner 920kv like you also and the 20amp e-flite esc with e-flite 1200 3s lipo and 11x4.7 apc prop. this is horizons Product Support: 1-877-504-0233 im sure they would be able to help given the exact details of your set up. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/RelatedParts.aspx?ProdID=EFL2175&Category=Completi on+Guides&SubCategory=High+Power+Outrunner+(direct +drive)+Motor+Setup

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one

ok let me try and explain this again when i fly the plane if i keep it level it does just fine but when i go to do a loop it just stalls and flips in place wont hold a hovver just starts tiping to one side or the other. I am running the out runner 400 with a kokam 3 cell 1500 a 10x 4.7 prop and a hitec 4 cahannel reciver not micro but not overly huge either. not sure what the plane weight is but i am sure it is a little heavy due to the battery and reciver i cant afford the micro reciver and a new lipo right now so i was thinking if i swith moters the added thrust would make up for it so should i go with the out runner 450 or use the gear box and get an in runner of so what shoud i go with i want to have lots of power. ad yes i am sure i am expecting allitel to much out of this plane but dont we all lol
