e-flite ultimate 3d (foamy) problem!!!!
 

ok i started to switch over my equipment and suchb to my ultimate and i went to the one servo on the top wing, in center, upright, but i have the aileron horns on the trailing edge of the aileron, and i have some flex in the wire so there not moving much, should i move the horns to the leading edge of the ailerons or wat? im stuck and i wanna get this thing finished!!!!!! help!!!!!!!

If you want to have any kind of travel of the control surface you need to mount the horn so the hole where the clevis or Z-bend (or whatever setup you are using) is directly over the hinge line.

ya i have it in the line of the connector, so its at an angle compared to the plane, but i still have flex, should i move it more towards the lead edge of the aileron and/or try building up the middle of the wire?????

I'm not exactly sure what you are saying? If you can post a picture it might help.
The holes on the horn should be positioned over the hinge line (leading edge of the control surface) on the ailerons, rudder, or elevator if you are using a push-pull setup. If the rod is flexing it is either binding or is too small.

well its not too small i kno that, it has no problem pullin the ailerons up but when it trys to push them down, it bends, and doesnt give it full throw, i have the horns in line with it at the angle and everything, but there at the back of the aileron (closest to the tail........if that helps) should i move them up....closer to the motor in a sense.......i dunno wat to dO!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your plane may be screwed up like mine. The on servo should be on the bottom not the top. Also, my mount points for the cross bracing is on the top of the plane and on the bottom. I plan on taking the plane back to my LHS tomorrow and get another one. Post pictures for us to see.

mate, you've hooked the servo up to the points that are meant to join the top and bottom ailerons!!!

Yeah your horns for the aileron servo need to be on the hinge line.
That setup just puts them in a bind. The surface will travel farther on the hinge line too.

Please refer to pages 22 and 23 of the manual. Actuation horn is near hinge line.

wow i didnt even notice that on the bottom aileron (where there supposed to go) there closer to the hinge line, my mistake, but thanks for the help guys!

well i wont be flyin it till i fix my transmitter, (i have another post somewhere on it) but im also using smaller aileron horns from my superstar (i lost 1 of the big ones from the ultimate......oops) hopefully it wont fly any different..........but ill sure let you know!!!!!!!

well i fixed the ailerons pretty much, i moved the horns up alot (by the tape) in line and everything, and then on the one i had to re do the connecting rod between top and bottom aileron, but when i hold left or right, they move nice, but the servo makes a noise, like its being strained or sumthin but only when i move it lol id unno but otherwise its working!

ya im still havin alittle problem with the wire flex and some servo binding.........any1 have any ideas how to make this wire stop bending??? thanks!

The wire you're using for the aileron pushrods is too small for that length. My aileron servos are mounted within 2" of the control horns and there's no flex at all.

The holes in the control horns to connect to the pushrod to should be lined up with the hinge line. If it's not you will not have good geometry.

Why would you want to use a single servo anyway? With dual aileron servos you do some really cool mixing and it's just easier to set up since it was designed that way. The weight penalty of a second servo is so minimal I doubt it would matter much.

Just move the control horns from the trailing edge to the leading edge of the aileron. That should fix most of your problem. You want to get them as close to the hinge line as possible.
