Need power for this FlatOut

Hey guys,

I just ordered a FlatOut Edge 540, but I need some power for that joker. I'm new to this, so I'm not quite sure what to go with. I was going to just get the recommended Great Planes battery, but I can't get it in a reasonable amount of time, so I was thinking of getting a Thunder Power from my LHS. The one at the LHS is fairly close to the same specs as the GP, but it doesn't have the cell balancing circuit built into it. How important is this feature and is there anyway that the charger itself can protect the battery from over charging a particular cell?

Check out this thread in e-flight power sources for some more info on the batteries I'm talking about: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3572533/tm.htm

Thanks again for all the help guys!

I have the FlatOut CAP 580 with a Tekin Mini Rage 5400kv geared 5:1 with the stock APC prop and it is nutz! I have the Thunder Power 3 Cell 900MAh li poly pack and it is great too! I heard the RimFire Outrunners are good with these planes, but I decided to try a geared brushless setup and it rocks. To the Moon!

Cool deal. I'm glad to hear you have that Thunder Power pack and like it... I just ordered one this morning. Should be here just after thanksgiving... lucky for me the LHS I'm getting it through is going to let me borrow a 860mAh TP until the 900 comes in. :) Gotta love that kinda service.

I decided to just go with the recommendation on the engine and got the rimfire, I'm sure it will be fine for my skill level. I'm pretty new to the brushless thing too, so making decisions on a custom setup for it is a bit of a stretch with my current level of knowledge. heh. I did go with a Phoenix-10 ESC instead of the one Great Planes suggested... the phoenix has way more features and weighs HALF as much. Also went with a GWS receiver (el cheapo... its going to be close to me right) and Futaba S3110 servos. Man I can't wait to hit the back yard with all 900mAh in that little joker!!!

Hey by the way, how much flight time do you get out of the 900?

Get the Rimfire. INSANE power. Hovered my Flatana at 1/3.

My Rimfire was defective (bought a Hacker A20-30M) as was the ESC and 1 of 2 of the 640 Lipos. Now they are lost in the mail, probably sitting on Towers dock for the past 2 weeks.
