Simulator Time!!!!!!!!!!
 

Does any one know which sim i should get? I already have Realflight G2 and G3 and I was looking at Aerofly Pro and thought that the control line feature was pretty cool. I love realflight but I want to know which one is better. I'm votin' for G3.............. Any other takers?

I bought Aerofly Pro Deluxe about 5 days ago. Its TOP notch in my book. The planes are fairly realistic in there. The heli's are amazing. That Trex flys JUST like a real Trex.
I wasnt that impressed with G3. Reflex is great too. I like being able to design and paint my own planes in Aerofly. That way you can fly what you fly in real life.

Im not a big fan of sims, I think real stick time is better, but when ya cant get outside to fly..its a nice option to have.

You might want to check in the simulator discussions.

But for what its worth, I have AFPD and love it. It is continually evolving with new free releases, it has 100's of free airplanes available, you get to mess with them if you want, the graphics are great, but most important, the models fly like the real models.

So what is not to like?

The planes just didnt have the dynamics that I thought should be there.
The heli's are a joke.
I think Aerofly and Reflex have MUCH better flight charectoristics.

G3 is a pretty good sim, I just think Aerofly and Reflex have better dynamics and simulation. G3 did a really good job of making the planes "look" realistic, but I want them to "fly" and "behave" realistically.

I think G3 has good planes and good characteristics. i also like some of the features on Aerofly Pro like the conltrol line feature

i bought reflex, due to my original interest in rc, being helicopters. top notch heli sim, the absolute best heli sim anywhere. The planes are also very realistic feeling and looking. couldn't be happier with my decision. apfd is good as well. g3 feels very toy like to me, just my imho.

I don't know how powerful your PC is. I find that downloaded planes run slower on AFP than the "out of the box" planes. There's too much lag time in their response to commands.

Are you kidding?

Download Doc Insane's Votec plane. There isnt any lag on that one....trust me. Its the fastest plane in the sim. INSANE roll rates.

You'll like it. Its almost too fast. Edit: Correction, he flew the yak last year, but this thing has roll rates just as fast. You can watch his video if you go to the VTOC article on rcuniverse. Its crazy. I think I might take on the Doc this year in the 2006 VTOC, I figure I can give him a run for his money. Might just use his plane to do it too.

Its probably rigged though, as Aerofly is one of his sponsors, and their reps tout his flying ability everywhere.

I tried the Votec it. Sweet!! It seems easier to fly than the Extra. It doesn't tip stall as readily.

So here's my question. Which one is more realistic? I want to get better at 3D foamy flying, so I'm not sure that large planes give an accurate picture anyway. I'm using the old AFP which doesn't include a Shockflyer.

The shockies all fly like shockies fly. Unfortunatly they are all running those gosh aweful brushed motors. So far I havent seen a shocky in the sim thats got a brushless motor on it. Its pretty accurate.

I dont know about the big 40% in the sim. I havent flown them in real life, so I cant really say. Judging by what Ive seen of the 40% flying around here, and what I can do in the sim...Id say its pretty close. Ive been offered a friends 40% for a flight, but I learned along time ago...NEVER fly anything you cant afford to replace. Biggest thing Ive gotten my hands on was quarter-scale.

The heli's are really good. In perticular the downloadable T-rex. The sim version is actually harder to fly than the real one. If you can fly the sim version, you'll have no problem with the real one. The piccolo is a DEAD on accurate.

The downloadable KwikFly is amazing. Its like they took the real thing and put it in the sim. My dad loves that old plane...Im not that impressed. It wont do knifeedge, but it is kinda cool to have the old classic planes.

Im hoping for the following planes to be added. E-flite planes like the Edge540, the GP series of Flatouts, Blade CP and CX helicopters, Shogun.

The Votec is awesome...really good flying plane. If your light on the sticks it will fly precision really well. It does incredible one roll rolling loops. Big, huge, and smooth. Rolling circles arent bad either. Get some altitude, then pull off the power, let it slow down, then shove full down elevator, and hold it. It will do a VERY cool inverted harrier right down to the deck, and it stays level, and comes straight down...no forward airspeed or tip stall or anything.

I can foresee a time when the physics of simulator flying will be indistinguishable from the real thing. You'll be able to show up at the field a ready made pilot.

I'll have to try that KwikFly. I like vintage planes. The Kaos was big when I first got interested in RC. Banshee, Aeromaster, etc.

Thanks for the tip on the Votec. I've got a new favorite plane.

Kewl!! The background is nicer than AFP. That would entice me to fly more often. I may have to break down and buy a decent gaming computer.

Im voting for refex XTR, everything flies great and the foamies have axi outrunners... i tried aerofly at the shop the other day, I was unimpressed.
