Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

There is not too much press about this model. However I picked one up from the local hobby shop Friday afternoon and I am very impressed with the quality. The model is all built up out of laser cut balsa. It is covered with lightweight translucent covering (not sure on the brand but good quality and light) It has plug in style wings with a carbon fiber wing tube. All of the controll surfaces are prehinged with the covering wich is a very nivce feature. The push rods are all prebent with z bends on both and the fit of them was perfect. This model took me less than an hour of total time (actually a little over 30 minutes)to put togather the The fit on all the parts were perfect so I was able to use ca to asseble the tail group. For power I have an e-flight 400 outrunner and an apc 11-3-8 prop. Test flight should be this week sometime. I will post a flight report then.

It'll be good to see how it flies - I have two of their models - an EZ Flyer and a Tiger moth, both assembled and flew really well straight out of the box and set up exactly according to the instructions. Both are suitable for indoor flying as well as being used regularly outdoors (even in winds up to 15mph but I wouldn't recommend that).

Been flying one since december 2005. Great build quality and extremely tough despite rather ragile looking.
I am using an E-flite park 400 out runner, 920 kv and 10x4.7 apc slofly.
Knife edge is damn good, and all round a great plane to fly.
Also havnt heard too much of other people flying them, but in my opinion it rocks.
Have also flown it with the 740kv park 400, with a 11x7 apc, not as good as the 920kv but still ok.
would be good to hear some other thought about how it flys.

Regards,

Gus

Thanx for your input, I have ordered min and should get it later this week, think i will use the motor you recomended as it sounds like it will have enough power as I want to do 3D. Will it prop hang easily on that motor?:)

Steve

Hi Steve,

I wouldnt go less than the 920kv Park 400. It prop hangs but the pull out is not ballistic.
I am running 1100 to 1800 mah 3cell lipos in it but the battery hatch is a little bit small for larger batterys.

Regards,

Gus

Hi Gus,

Well I sat in the model shop waiting for the perkins order to arrive, When it did my heart sank as there were no big boxes in there[&o]
we looked at the order and sure enough it stated JP Spirit 3D, bemused we opened the packaging to find this little box with it in.....This was our first amazement!!!
I opened it to find the most Excellent, beautiful ARF I have ever seen.( GReeaaat! )

On Starting the build I couldn't believe the quality and accuracy of how it all went together (Superb);)
Absolutely everything went together like a dream (TOP MARKS JP, OR SHOULD I SAY GREENMODELS.COM!!!)

It is now 99% complete, just a few links etc to finish her off, it is sitting on my scales with everthing in it weighing in at exactly 500g on the nose.

Now Gus the only motor I could get was the E-flite Park 370/1080KV, I know you said not to go less than a Park 400 920KV but as I'm fairly new to all this Electric stuff is this more or less powerfull as I thought that as it was 1080KV and not 920KV it would have more although it is only a 370 and not a 400:eek::eek::eek:???????
Also I have put an APC 9x4.7 as this fits the drive adapter, but I have GWS 10x4.7 props but didn't want to try and make the holes bigger!!!
What do you recon??

To every one else out there you should buy this beauty even if you just build it and stick it on yer shelf:)

Regards

Steve

I used to have the Extreme Flight Yak but I think this one should fly even better and it should float a little bit better for bnormal landing on it's weels!!!

Hi guys
I was wondering if anybody tired their set up, brushless motor, and ESC. I wonder if its worth to buy the combo or maybe something different. I am new to eletric and I dont know much about it so any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello!
I have buy this one too. The user manual was not much to boast of!! To pages, with some picture who are very very smal, not possible to see nothing on them.
No info about rudder/aileron/elevater deflection, anyone who know what is recomended??
I have Hitec HS-55, i think this is a ok servo for this model.
The motor a have planning to use is a Nippo black 1812-100, what did you think??

I just bought one of these from the SE Model show. I am very new to electrics so go easy on me. I have owned a shocky and a tensor but wanted to try something that was a little more airplane like. ;)

Mine came ready to rock and roll.

Hitech 55's
TT 3C 1320 mAH
6 channel receiver
Extreme Flights Torque 22T/930
It also has the speed control but I couldnt tell you what it is.

All for $250 and not a scratch on it. If the wind will get right this afternoon I will put it to the test!!
Next week we are going to shoot some video of the OMP Fusion and I will try to get some of this plane.

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

Ive heard some pretty good comments on it. I would try the recommended setup OR

TP PL 1320 3 cell
Eflite 450
11 x 4.7 prop
25 amp esc (any)
HS-56 servos

It would probably go to like 17 oz or so but this would have superior vertical and still pretty light weight..

VictoryRoll-91 03-04-2007 11:39 AM

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

Yeah, I would definitely be inclined to put a 450 on it, I like a 3d plane with a little bite when I punch it.[sm=punching.gif]

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

EF claims the motor on there is awesome in any plane up to 22 oz. I think I should be well under that.

SS2P 03-04-2007 12:56 PM

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

Yes as a matter of fact, I think EF motors are the best. They are tough and give out lots of power at low weight.

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

Wind is blowing at a steady 15mph. Not the best day to maiden a 1lb airplane.

C'mon, man, you gotta take some risks. :D

How does this model compare to the Fliton Mini Extra/Edge or the PA katana mini?

Thanks!

southern_touch9 03-04-2007 05:56 PM

RE: Green Model Spirit 3d Arf

well....I did take the risk :D I couldnt help myself. There is about 30 acres they have just cleared and leveled for development one block from my house. To tell you the truth I still cant say how the plane flys. It was wayyyyy toooo windy!!! I felt lucky to get it on the ground without breaking anything. Wind was closer to 20 mph.

I did like the fact that when I cut the power and pointed the nose into the wind it feathered down nicely with no wing rock. Maybe tomorrow afternoon.
