tantrum setup

i am currently working on a tantrum from mountain models and to the point of covering and installing the radio gear but I have not choosing a motor for it yet was thinking a himax out runner 2816 http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-26.html I want to stay away from the geared motors because my gears keeping stripping on my mini funtana (thats another post) but wanted to know if that was a good choice are any other setups that someone might be running (keeping in mind that I am a serious hardcore 3d lover and love some extra power)

I would recommend the Himax HC2812-0850. The tantrum builds up to AUW of about 14 oz with a TP 1320. This motor hovers 16oz planes just fine. Put a APC 11X4.7 on it.

Yes, the HC2812-0850 and the TP 1320 Lipo is a perfect power combination for the Tantrum. Try a GWS 11-7 direct drive prop for the same pulling power with less amp draw. I've used the 1020 kv model also with good results. Never had a 2816 so wouldn't want to guess at its suitability.
Built straight and light the Tantrum is a superb example of what fine design and kitting can do; kudos to Doug Binder.

Here is my tantrum. I built it a year ago with a motor left over from a NSP Mamba. Its a MP Jet 25/25 with a 4:1 and an APC 11x7 castle 25 ,berg 5 channel and a Kokam 1500 or TP 2100. I tossed the gear after the first flight and just land on the belly. It lands so slow it hardly skids more than a foot. My motor is a little heavy and the 1500 pack helps with the weight. I would love to repower it with something else. It was so easy to build I should get another one.

I'm late to the Tantrum party, but when I saw RVators post I had to respond. Great minds must think alike, cause we both used similar color schemes for our Tantrums:

I used a Himax 2015-4100 in a GWS 6.6:1 gear box with a 12X6 prop in my first Tantrum. It flew great unitl I nailed a light pole trying to land in a parking lot. I liked the plane so much I built another one. I used the Himax 2812-0850 outrunner in that one. It was also a good motor for the Tantrum, but not quite as much zip as I had with the gearbox and 4100 setup. Either one will work nicely.
