What is the ultimate setup????
 

Hey guys,

I helped my father-in-law build a fan fold foamy this last week. We test flew it and I have to say, even though I am not a huge electric fan, I REALLY LIKED THIS THING. Plane has a 38" span and ended up weighing in at 15.5 oz. He is using the NIPPY BLACK 1200 series motor. For the control surfaces, he used the HS55 servo. CC speed control and an MPI RX with a TP 1320 3s Bat.....

Question I have is.......

I know that the Nippy Black is an older motor and there are newer lighter and stronger motors. As for the RX, speed control and servos, I really don't have a clue what there is for light weight with high performance. SO, what would be the best electonics package for a 16 oz plane that should be able to perform all 3D manuevers and have power to spare? I want to build the lightest possible plane with the most power (just like everyone else!!)

What is would be the better motor choices?
What would be the better RX choices?
What would be the better speed controller choices?
What would be the better servo choices?

I will most likely stick with the TP 1320 3S pack

If you know what the items weigh, please list the weight.

the hs55's are great servos and a rimfire motor could work pretty well with that 1320 powering it.

Are you still talking fan-fold or do you really want a great flying airplane? If you want the best 16oz plane with enough vertical to rip the paint off. Try the Edge 540 from Darrolcady.com

Well, I was really hoping for more responses as to what motors people like for crazy 3D power on a 16 oz plane. I haven't really gotten into the electric scene as of yet, so I really do not know what motors work for what size aircraft. Any help would be appreciated

On a 16 oz plane I use the Hacker A20-22L with the Hacker x20 esc. The Hacker A20-20L is also a good choice.

I use a Hacker A20-20L with the Hacker x20 speed control on a 3DFoamy.com Super Cap and it is a great motor. Pulls right around 20 amps on a 10x4.7 so make sure your battery is up to the task. I use a GWS 6 channel RX and HS-55 servos.

The Hacker A20-20L will give you 2 to 1 power to weight ratio for a 16oz plane. I have had good lucky using HS-55 servos as they give you good throw stock. The hitec micro 8gram servo is a light and good RX.

The Hacker A20-20L is 1 of the hot new motors these days. I am just finishing up a 3D balsa park flyer with it on the nose. AUW is 13.8oz, woohoo. I am running a CC Phoenix 25 ESC rather than the Hacker X-20 ESC, though. I have 4 Hitec HS55 servos and while I have not flown them yet, I am not impressed. most likely I will go with JR digital micros again next time. The Hitec's are loud, rough and not very precise compared to the JR DS281 servos, but they are half the price also.

For foamies my vote goes to 3dfoamy.com or fancyfoam.com. They make some of the best foamies available.

For balsa 3D park flyers check out the Skeeter 30 or Skeeter 36 from billyhell.com.

The Hacker A20-20L is 2oz, but 2.4oz once the prop adapter and firewall mount are added(much to my dismay). The TP 1320mah 3S is 3.4oz. The CC25 ESC is .6oz. The Hitec HS55 servos are .28oz. I use JR Rx's and the 610UL is .6oz.
