Best setup for a Shock Flyer YAK54???
 

Hi everyone, I am planning on buying a ikarus shock flyer yak 54 and I need to know what would be the best choices in terms of hardware. What AXI motor and respective speed controller?? How many cell and amperage lipo??will hitec HS-55 servos all round be ok?? Also people who have this plane could you please post some photos of yours?? And what setup is everyone using for this plane?? or any other of the new shock flyers. Any extra info will be very much aprecciated

PS: This is my first attempt at electric flight (I fly glow powered 3Ders)

HS-55's are heavy beasts...they will work, but GWS or Bluebird servos are great..
HALF the weight....

TP 340 or TP 730 mAh battery.... I know lots of people that run and LOVE 2S, but I like 3S setups...i like the power:D

use the futaba 3110 servos. they are faster and have more torque. the AXI 2204/54 is a good light weight moter. then use something in the 3-cell 480 size range for a battery pack. my planes come in at just under 6 oz. with this setup and it works very well.

make it light, ive flown 250g shockies, they were fun....i have a 140g shocky for my own use, and its 10x better!

TP 480 2s pack (3s is rediculus and makes the airframe twist badly!!)

Stripped down 5ch RX

make it light, dont use much glue either, its possible to get a shocky light as mine with my equipment by basically not using any of the stock hardwere, use kevlar thread for pull pull on the surfaces etc....

This setup will be between 5-6oz if you build it right, and fly great indoors or out.

Under 4oz if build right, and will be smokin for indoor flying.

Ian, there is more than one Cyclon. Im using the Cyclon Nano on a F3Ai indoor pattern plane that I designed. Its about the size of a shockflyer and weighs 123g. With the NANO motor, it will pull anything up to about 150g with decent authority. If you can get it under 130...it will be REALLY good.

The nano is a 50Watt motor.Cyclon also makes a slightly larger version that should pretty much duplicate the Axi 2204/54, and is a 100Watt motor.

If given the choice. I think I would take the Cyclon. Its a really fine motor. Im very impressed with them.
The nano only weighs 15.7g.....compared to the Axi 2204/54 thats 25g.

yeah, thats the motor im thinking of getting, the CPLR edition. I have no probs getting a shocky down in weight, as ive worked out how to build them well!

Hi Ian, like me you like them light as for motors have you tried the ck 310 from www. brushlessmotors.co.uk there a true 20g and the thrust with these little motors is breath taking.

I agree the lightest setup possible is the way to go. I fly mine with the AXI 2204. The Eflite 300 is pretty much a clone of this motor and is slightly cheaper. The guys I fly with tend to like the 3 cell lipos over 2 cells but that is most likely just personal preference. Thunder Power batteries are my current favorite as they are a little lighter than the others available to me locally.

That Cyclone motor looks interesting, who carries these?

The Cyclon Nano, and its larger twin are both available from Horizon.
Im still flying my F3Ai plane on it, and its one of my favorite motors.

Batt TP 450-700 2 cell

Prop Gws slo fly 8-4 or 9-5 DD

It runs nice indoors. If their is no wind outside in the back yard.

I also had a CDR single on it runs about the same. With-out the screaming noise.

any of you guys try the komodo257 11 turn motor weighs 22g and has 12.3 oz of thrust sound like the perfect motor for a shocky

Could you please inform the CG position for the :

IKARUS Shock Flyer YAK54 park Flyer ?
