Need help with shock flyer setup.
I am building a shock flyer extra 330s. This will be my first foam plane. I have flying rc gas for about 17 years and helis for about 1.5 years. I have an e-flite blade cp heli. I also have a sail boat, mini losi lst 4X4 1/18 scale truck and nylint 1/6 scale rock crawler. I would like your opinion on the setup I might use for my shock flyer. If you don’t mind can you take a look and let me know if the components I want to use will work ok?
Extra 330s Castle Creations thunderbird 9A http://www.greathobbies.com/products...prod_id=CCRTB9 or this one http://www.greathobbies.com/products...?prod_id=CCR07 Motor PJS 3D 300 sfr http://1301774.estore.networksolutio...etail.bok?no=5 (this motor might be a little big for the plane I’m not sure but I got it real cheap, My friend is building the same plane and he is using the axi 2204/54 ) what do you think of the motor I am using? Kokam 2 cell/340 http://www.greathobbies.com/products...d_id=KOK340H2S what other battery would you say I could use maybe for longer flight flying indoor or out? 3 cell? 2 cell more mah? Servos e-flite sub micro s75http://www.greathobbies.com/products/productinfo.php?prod_id=EFLRS75 Or hitec hs 55 http://www.greathobbies.com/products...od_id=HITHS55S witch servo do you think is better? Prop? Not sure witch to use? Maybe a GWS 9X4.7 prop? Receiver – maybe this one? http://www.greathobbies.com/products...rod_id=GWSR4PF Or http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLBY8&P=ML what do you think. I don’t have a local hobby shop the nearest one is almost 4 hours drive away and most times when I order from them they don’t have the stuff in stock. I live in Canada and sometimes I order from tower hobbies in the USA. Well if you don’t mind take a look at my list and let me know what you think. I would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks, |

What is the size of the extra? I use to have one a while ago, and my setup was an axi 2208\26 with a CC10 amp esc with a 700mah battery. As for receiver try getting a hitec 05S, it's light and works very well for a single conversion.

Alright,
Speed control- try to go with the castle pheonix 10. I have had alot of success with it and is very easy to program Motor- I havn't used the one you have, but from what the specs are, it seems like it should work well. 10 oz's of thrust will be cutting it close though for 3D. You may want to go with something a little bigger. Battery- a 2 cell is perfect, but your going to want more capacity than a 340. Go with something like a 700 or 730 2 cell lipo Servos- Go with the hs 55's. they may be a little more expensive, but they are far better than the e-flights. Reciever- I used the gws 4 channel nano in my shockflyers. They dont have the best of range, but these planes are small and you will be keeping them close to you anyways. But they are very lightweight and small, which is a big deal with these small foamies. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask. |

If its the Ikarus Shocky....
ESC is ok Motor is a bit too big. You need to look for something like the AXI 2204/54, Himax 2212.1180. Basically something in the 25g weight range that will swing a 8x4 prop Battery is fine. Servos will work, but I would suggest the Futaba 3110's, as they are faster, stronger, and center better. Receiver. I would highly recommend the Berg Microstamp. They are extremely good recievers. Your setup will work fine with the exception of the motor. That motor is a little heavy for a Ikarus shocky. That motor weighs 1.3oz, compared to the Axi 2204/54's 25g weight. Here is the setup for good performance Axi 2204/54 CC Thunderbird 9 2cell 620mAh lipo Futaba 3110's Berg Microstamp 4L All up weight should be around 160g Here is the setup for great performance Cyclon Nano brushless motor CC Thunderbird 9 2cell 340-400mAh lipo Dymond servos Berg Microstamp All up weight should be around 130g Both of these setups will be excellent for indoor flying, and will fly good outdoors too on calm days. With the Ikarus shockflyers, lighter is better. Here is a video of my shockflyer sized plane on the "great performance" setup listed above. http://media.putfile.com/Playing-with-the-F3Ai-plane |
