Good luck Charles! I'm sure you'll be ecstatic with your AJX. Tell us how your maiden went.

Doug, thanks for the compliment. The soundtrack gives me a good excuse for making videos :).

Uh-ohh BoneDoc, what happened?

I was tickled, got to fly the AJ Extra in a noon time demo at a "Vintage" meet. I sure had a lot of fun and the old farts asked lots of questions.:D

Great flying, Josh !! It sure is one fun airplane ! I'm going out tomorrow am and have some fun. I ordered a 4-cell TP battery to see what it will do for plane. I'm going to have to take covering off bottom to get at landing gear bolt T-nuts as I cannot get a broken one out of hole plus I cannot ream out T-nut w/ tap from top.

RE: Fliton AJ Extra

Doug, I had similar problem, and my solution was to heat up a flat screwdriver (I used blowtorch in this case :D), and use that to melt part of the screw, creating something for it to bite on.

pete, awesome flying buddy and thanks for sharing the video! dont you just love how smooth it comes in for landings?

i love this plane.

Thanks, Josh , for hint - I'll remember . Do you guys find the plane just "drops" on final just before touchdown? Mine does it every time - I need to keep a bit of power on just before touchdown. That's the reason I break so many nylon landing gear bolts.

RE: Fliton AJ Extra

all airplane will warn you when it's about to stall. This plane is so light that you think you can keep flying it forever. But around stall point, you'll feel that the control is a bit mushier, and will continue to do so until it finally stalls. The trick is to know when this is and either drop the nose first to gain airspeed, or add abit of throttle to keep it flying. A perfect 3 pt landing is essentially a stall at 2-3 inches from the ground.

The way you should land is to use pitch for attitude, and throttle for descent rate (altitude). Don't yank the stick to get more height. Instead fly faster.

logged in more flight time on the AJ Extra and boy, can it fly! it beats other airplanes in its size range by far in all categories of 3D. knife edge especially, i had that thing so low and couldve taken my hands off the sticks! i am pumped!!!

I flew mine in 13 mph hour wind (per Weatherbonk.com, USairnet says 15-20 mph). It's definitely doable, and it has good penetration, though you have to be good with your throttle. The coolest maneuver at this wind setting by far is the elevator that is rock free and comes straight down.

Hey bonedoc!

Finally got my ajx it is a well done bird. I am taking my time finishing it up, as the weather here is very bad. I got an e-mail from Edson showing your build pics from rc groups. I just wanted to say thankx for carbon fiber ideas. I have replicated your set up and a few other pieces around firewall. I put some small eyelet screws in rotation pins for keeping wings on with more rubber band points and flush with fuse, also a .250 wide velcro strap around ply hooks. I ran an 8-32 tap thru gear nuts and some steel screws. I am also wondering if X40 default programming set up comes done or if I will have to set auto timing, brake, and 4s voltage cut off. The manual seems a little weird setting some of the applications ( any one have a x40 esc and have some tips?) Any way I can not wait to fly this bird. Nice second video bonedoc. I am ready for some NICE WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Fliton AJ Extra

Thanks 3DAP,

Unfortunately I don't use X40, but go with these settings. Brake off, auto timing, 3S voltage cutoff (I use a timer instead. The last thing you want is a deadstick). You probably don't need the eyelet screws, but if that makes you feel more at ease when throwing the sticks around, then more power to you. If you're not planning on taking the wing off, then you can use zip ties. The CF rods for the firewall is probably not needed for a fresh motor box. On my AJX #2 (first one I lost due to radio failure), I didn't reinforce the box at all. I figure that I'll make it the sacrificial lamb and during the rebuild, I'll add the CF rods later. If you already did it, though, it'll be just fine.

The way you set the programming is to plug everything in with the throttle at full up. Then when you get the right beep, pull the throttle down to zero.

RE: Fliton AJ Extra

Bonedoc,

Thank you for info. As far as voltage cutoff I believe I need to program for 4s (14.8v) which starts slow cut off at 11.3 volts. I am still unsure I have emailed hacker and waiting for reply. (I like to use a timer as well, nothing like no voltage to make it back to runway).
The manual has some different terminology for timing and frequency they show Vs instead of dots for beeps. I am trying to get to the bottom of it. I am curious to what is set at factory for default settings. Any way thankx again for info, I hope to be in the air soon.

I don't know, but I'll check. I think it's just slightly forward of the wing tube.
