Would this work?

The only plane that I own is the typhoon 3d.

As you know the plane costs a little over $200 with the lipo set up

I want to get the feel for a different plane but like I said, I only have the typhoon and what it came with. I have no other radio or motors or ESC's or servos, and this is a very expensive hobby.

I have looked at ARF kits with everything I would need and the lowest price I came up with for a decent set up was close to $400

I'm trying to keep cost to a minimum so I was wondering if any of you think it is possible.

Would I be able to take the components from the typhoon (servos, receiver, transmitter, ESC, motor, & battery) and use it for an ARF model like an edge or an extra or the acromaster, or a yak, anything that is different than the typhoon with relatively the same weight.

I am assuming that in comparison to other gear out there the typhoons components are not as good quality as one would probably want, but its just too much money, and I have gotten hooked on flying and want to experience a different plane, for many reasons. One of them being that the typhoon will not hold a steady knife edge flight.

But I have also been told that the typhoon components are not interchangeable and that's why I ask if I can just take the entire electronic set up and put it in another plane.

In my opinion I have gotten pretty decent at flying 3d, and I think I'm ready to graduate to another model.

Best regards

RE: Would this work?

i beleive you could, but like you said, the performance of the new plane may lack a little, due to the cheaper electronics that pz uses. i've spent well over $600 on my electronics, mostly on lipo stuff, chargers, batteries, etc. it is expensive!

I doubt you'll get the performance you're looking for with those components in another plane, but if you get a plane that has an all up weight that's almost identical to the Typhoon you just might. If you get a plane that is slightly lighter it should have a better power to weight ratio, which would result in better 3D flight.

Something else you could consider is picking up a used Tx and getting a $250 package deal from [link]http://www.fancyfoam.com[/link]. Their planes fly really well and include everything for the plane(ie. servos, ESC, motor, battery, Rx). You'd still need a charger, but might be able to use the charger that came with the Typhoon bychanging connectors, I'm not sure.

BTW, thanks for serving.

Sergeant Miranda,
Another avenue that you may want to try is going to some of the suppliers directly or some site like United Hobbies.com. They have some exceptional equipment and prices.

Servos - $3.95 each as opposed to $9.95 here and on the Internet
Motors - depends but range from 50 watt to 300 watt that go from $9.95 to $35.00
Receivers - $15.00 and up
LiPos - 11.1V 2200 mah for $33.00 as an example

So, you can get a setup for a flatout from less than $100.00

I've flown my "Stuff" all winter and had no problems.
