FINDING CG QUESTION
1 Attachment(s)
Is there a way to find the CG to make setup easy? I know you use a balancing machine. I guess you set it at 25 -33 % back from leading edge of the wing and adjust servos batteries etc. to make it balance or slightly nose heavy. This does not sound too precision. Is there a better more exact way to get the correct flying CG? When you have this setting than why do you adjust it further? Want to do 3Dflight.Ron

RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
CG is like factory settings on a motor it will get you in the ball park and to some it will never be touched again afterward. But to others it will be adjusted to suit your style and taste.....

RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
I like to fly and usually just fly it no mater where its set. I don't know what is the correct setting for a plane. If a plane does rolls I just think its the plane. Maybe you can do rolls with all planes if set correctly. Ron

RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
CG effects how it flies both inverted and canopy side up for most flyers.
I like it very netural inverted meaning pretty much hands off or just a breath on the elevator to maintain level inverted flight or u can also run negative expo lots of way to skin the cat like Vista/Windows program. I adjust right and left thrust to fly uplines that go straight up I adjust up and down thrust to fly staight up with out pulling to the canopy or wheels I make sure the ailerons move the same amount for the up and the same amount for the downs along with the elevator halves some birds cary 1 degree more of up or down on the ailerons. |

darticus:
I thought along your line for a number of years until I flew several birds identical to mine, built buy some of the old experienced flyers such as Phil Kraft and Joe Bridi, good guys of their time and mine ( was a little younger) The difference in the birds was amazing, mine better constructed, theirs simply much better flyers. Key was they did not have to be as good pilots to beat others of equal or superior skills. The time it takes to set up a bird well is much less than to build and well worth it. Last year at the Castle AFB show, Chip Hyde offered to let me fly his "Double Vision". Thing was simply great, nothing like I have ever had, or flown, just beyond reality. This is the thing he flys backwards for around 30 feet, yes I said backwards, did not believe it until I saw it twice. Am just trying to tell you that learning setup can be key to your ultimate enjoyment of the hobby, do it for more fun and longer lasting birds. ENJOY |
RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
Rmenke,
Its night and day like you have seen. i have seen flyers run out and get a plane because of the way they saw it fly only to discover it does not fly like they saw it fly right out of the box. Here is a good start to those who want to adjust things: http://www.mini-iac.com/Portals/57ad...20trimming.pdf |
RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
Sounds great but how do you learn correctly? I think I can fly my Hummer now but can't do rolls with it very good. Have to learn the correct way. Ron

RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
to learn correctly make sure you know what the move is suppose to look like and ask others to judge it, if someone at your club is an IMAC or pattern person look to them for those moves. Look to the 3d guys for the 3d moves and on and on we go with burning fuel doing good practice...... G 4.5 is my weapon of choice

RE: FINDING CG QUESTION
Ron, Go to this website to determine the correct location of the CG for your model. For your sport model, use the 30% point. Don't guess! Dan.
