Help, Newbie to 3D, plane keeps snapping with up elev.
Guys I just got my first "3D" type plane and I'm having a problem with it.
Its the new parkzone extra 300 and its the first plane I've ever had that has large amounts of throw to the surfaces. I have a few problems with it and I'm sure its plane / setup etc... my first major problem is that with any moderate to large amounts of up elevator the plane will snap/ spin out to the right.. Say I'm coming in with moderate speed and try to do a nice big loop well it will corkscrew out of the loop near the top. If I come in and punch the elevator hard up it will pop straight up into a "wall" but then snap to the right.. Its kinda scary because If in a panic I jam up elevator the thing snaps on me to the point one time I got in a spin and had trouble recovering. The elevator isn't warped and it doesn't matter slow or fast little or alot of input it still rolls right. elevator seems square to the fuse / level and lateral balance is great so what could it be? Also the second problem is I'm not use to flying a tail heavy type plane but I notice when it trying to land a couple times I've gotten the speed down and the plane pourposed while stalling / falling. The tail just kinda bobed up and down with the plane in a high alpha attitude and loosing altitude. is this normal or is the cg off? Any and all help is appreciated as I have never have had nor flown planes like this before. Thanks! |
RE: Help, Newbie to 3D, plane keeps snapping with up elev.
The snapping is typical for a plane with 3d rates. You basically need to fly normal LARGE loops (with very little elevator) or do full "up" loops at low throttle (a waterfall). with full up or full down elevator, the plane will not fly on the wing. So keep your plane up high while you get used to flying 3d.
You should be running a lot of exponential on the elevator and ailerons. Or use dual rates - one for 3d and one for regular flying. I suspect your plane setup is fine. A rearward CG can make for tricky landings, so don't let the plane get too slow. You might have to push some down elevator on final approach to keep the nose down and keep it flying. If you have a 3d flyer you trust, have him check it out. |

DMcQuinn<span style="font-family: tahoma, verdana, arial; font-size: 11px; background-color: rgb(251, 252, 255); "> is right I have an exponential of 40% on my aileron and elevator also you can begin with less big end points around 80%</span>

RE: Help, Newbie to 3D, plane keeps snapping with up elev.
I'm running 40 or 50% expo and only 40% elevator throw on low rates. High rates is scary, but that's how much control authority you need when hovering. When at speed you need low rates or very very fine movements on the sticks.
