Just about to buy a Madness 2, is it better than the Flip? I want to stay 2 stroke and am about to go for a OS50 to go with it, is this the best engine for the plane?

If it anything like the Madness 1 it will not be too bad. The old madness is great, I run mine with a YS 63. The K.E. is what let it down, it would do it, but it was a stuggle.

My Feedback: (3)
The Madness 2 really improves on the Madness. Ultimate powerplant...YS63. OS50SX would be just fine too. The OS50SX pulled one of my Madnesses around just fine. The Madness 2 is even lighter. Either way you will have a great combo and have much fun flying with it.

I'm interested in the Madness II, too....
. I will be going to Stavanger, Norway via London in the 3'rd week of May. Can somebody please direct me to the best place to get this model? What is the selling price? If possible what are the box dimensions?
Thanks.

Hi,
A word of warning to Madness II buyers, mine was brand new this week with YS 63fz in the nose. The tailplane, elevators and rudder are built extremely lightly in fact too lightly to have any structural strength. First flight at a very low speed ,the tailplane fluttered and folded. Upon inspection there was no glue at all on three of the tailplane fillets. I cut away the covering and installed a 5mm carbon spar and then braced the tailplane to the fin using 2mm carbon rod. Having its second flight today, I tried slow knife edge and the tailplane fluttered again and balsa broke away from the hinges. The elevator also broke away from the hinges leaving it dangling from a 3mm control rod. The aircraft however survived and glided in to land. It seems to me that the pursuit of lightness has taken over from structural strength. The flutter was not caused by inadequate servos we had 9202 on all tail surfaces and Robbe digital on ailerons. I understand that my kit having a built up rear end has been replaced by a solid structure to try and cure the problem however my kit was new after xmas. I attach some pictures.
Hope you have more luck than we did.

Further pics of the flutter after strengthening the tail. I should emphasise all this flutter happened at very low speeds as the engine is brand new and was being run in, in the air.

I do not understad? I bought my Madness 2 just before Christmas last year and I have not had a single problem with it...
The thing that puzzles me is that my Madness has a solid balsa stab and all the wood is of a very high standard.
Perhaps Alvin Braeckman in Germany might be able to explain this?

Thanks for your reply, my kit has very and I mean very light woods used in the tail. The tailplane is built up and in my opinion does not have the strength to take even a normal flight load let alone be suitable for 3d flying !!!.
I understand the tailplanes may have been replaced and the rear beefed up, but mine certainly wasn't.
Best wishes
Paul & Joe Bromley.

Hi,
I can not speak by flight experience but I bought a week ago the plane. I have checked it all-over and I do not see glue missing anywhere. Mine has either a solid stab and 1st class quality wood.
I plan to use a Saito 72, Hitec HS-5925 (aileron), Hitec HS-225BB (stab) and a Futaba S9203 (rudder), is it a problem mixing digitals servos/non digitals one ? I will post some photos when finished and maybe a video if my Nikon Coolpix 5000 gives me a reasonable result.
Btw, Mr NZ Scythe, I "envy" your very nice carbon fiber control horns !
Will not you see any problem if I goes on with my experience through your thread ??
Have fun,
JYM.

Jym, I hope your Madness 2 flys as good as mine.
I would still recomend braching the tail with either aluminium tube or carbon - I flew my madness first with no bracing and it was fine, but I needed to add tail weight so the bracing was a good idea.
"Btw, Mr NZ Scythe, I "envy" your very nice carbon fiber control horns!" Thankyou
they only took a whole afternoon of sanding to make! and they are still holding strong.
I am off to the flying field with my madness now, happy flying!

Being in charge for the construction of the Madness I can share my experience with you. It is not the first time we experienced your problem. In fact it is the second time (at least what I know about) - the first time it happen to me during a very strong take off when the compensation part of the tailplane touched the grass during take off. A few seconds later I was flying with only one movable part (could save the plane)
I am also wondering that you still have a plane with the "build up" stab as we started with the modification to the solid one in October 2003. However if you need a new tail plane - just make me a note at [email protected].
Patrick
could you please tell me again what part of the Synergy you need - due to computer crash I have lost everything saved on it
Thank you
Alvin Braeckman
