My plane weighs 6pounds 2 ounces with the OS 91 surpass II pumped. The OS 91 weighs 24.6 oz vs 16.6 oz for the saito. Plus I am using an 1100 mah ni-cad battery pack If you go with the saito and a smaller battery say a 600mah you will be under 5.5 pounds. In my opinion mine is wat overpowered it will climb vertical at just over 1/4 throttle. I think you will be very happy with the saito 72 and there is always 30% heli fuel if you aren't.

Extra - thanks for the info, understand what you mean about the Saito 72 with a 5.5 lbs plane. I will probably build her and then weigh her in to make my final decision. Wish I did not have the Saito 72 lying about then I can just rip the 82 outta the box ... think the 82 will be just right.

I can't bliv that you hang at 1/4 throttle, darn good stuff!

Well, I went to the field with the extra 2day. I was planning to make the final touches this morning but the bad luck stroke. While dialing the Tx my receiver went nuts, all the servos were buzzing and finally the rudder burned. Never heard such thing but it happened. Replaced the Rx and went to the field and tested the engine. Hope tomorrow will fly.
I'm a little disappointed about the construction. The frame is light and it looks great but as someone said it seems the release was rushed and they did not checked some things.

there is no decent way to secure the hatch
some part of the hardware belongs to some other plane, especially the push rods
elevator linkage is good for a trainer or warbird not for a aerobatic
if you try to install the engine 45 deg, the engine mount is sticking out of the firewall

I hope I'll come with some better comments after the first flight.

This plane has the best flight characteristics of any I have flown! It is more stable than a trainer and as wild as I can make it when you bang the sticks! Landings a super slow 3 point every time. I have not been able to make this plane snap out or drop a wing. Harriers are rock solid with no wing rock at all. I sound like a Fliton salesman here but trust me I am not I am just so happy with this plane and the way it flies! I am not happy with the canopy attachment that does suck but so far that is the only problem I have. It did come with landing gear that the mounting holes were drilled wrong and all I did was email flitton and they sent me the correct ones no questions asked! They didn't even want proof of purchase! I had the new gear in a matter of days and they contacted me to make sure I received them now that is service!!

drumbum: I just epoxied some wood legs, drill holes and install nyrod inserts for screws. It's a easy job, takes you 20 min and is convenient.

I flew the plane 4 times. Still have some problems with my Saito, does not idle to well and I have to chase it on the taxi way. I hope I fixed it and I'll give it a shot 2day.
The plane it's a breeze to fly. It floats forever and it handles more on 3D side than pattern. That's probably because mine is a little tail heavy with 2 servos for elevator.
I don't have any mixes , just dual rates and a lot of expo.
Takeoff and landing : well I'm not gonna comment much on that. It slows down very well and 3 points are easy.
Snap roll: on slow rates looks beautiful and it stops as soon as you release the sticks.
Knife edge: almost no coupling. It goes all the field in straight lines. Cut slowly the throttle and increase the rudder, some planes will snap at some point. Not this one .
Hover: half throttle and tons of fun. Just be sure that you have all the rudder you can get.
Flat spins, blenders ...you name it. It will do it . It's a very nice plane to fly. I could not find any bad habits.

How does this plane compare with the Extreme Flight Yak and the Funtana 90?

Thank you DRUMBUM! First of all you can't compare this plane to a Funtanna. Second I like the Yak more but it doesn't fly as well in the wind as the Extra. The Extra will do anything a pilot is capable of making it!!!!! For the money you can't loose!!

Extra ... you are making me salivate!!! I got the F90 NIB with a YS110 and now I am thinking perhaps its time to pass her to someone else! Just that the Fliton Extra is a big 40 sized plane only. If it were a 90 sized then I would probably sell the F90 immediately. Why do you say that the EF Yak is not as good in the wind? Everyone seems to be singing its praises. Thanks!

the yak is a light wingloaded lite flying plane. the wind will knock it around. the extra will cut through better.. the yak is a very good plane I think its EXTRAs favorite but if its windy he just leaves it in the truck.. I also read on the yak thread someone else saying same about windy conditions...

Okay ... looking at what you guys are saying I think I will go with the Saito 100. Its only 2 oz more than the Saito 72/82. Just opened the box today to admire it and it sure is a fine plane. I think I am going to get the Quiet Storm next.

Drumbum : I'll take a shot of my hatch and post it.

I totally agree withe EXTRA. I have the EF YAK with SAito 180 and the reason I bought the Fliton was to fly it on the windy days. The Yak is in a different league but it's very light and does not track very well on the wind.

drumbum : here are some shots of the hatch. There are not very clear but I think you can get the idea. The black stuff is chopped CF but you can skip that part.
Yesterday I discovered the servo tray came loose. I have just the rudder servo mounted on it and the cables from pull pull are not that tight. Anyone had the same experience ?

Here is my last flyght report with this plane. I was hit 2day by a 10" foamie in the wing tip. The CF tube broke like it was cut with an exacto blade. One wing start spiraling down and since I've never heard anyone landing safe with just one wing I cut the engine and watch the plane screwing into mother earth. It was the 7-th flight and I was really pleased with it.
I actually bought this plane as a backup to my EF Yak for windy days and weekends. I'm glad it's not murphy's law : if you try to protect an electronic device with a fuse, the device will burn protecting the fuse.

Today was windy and I noticed the Extra is not tracking very well or maybe it was just because it was tail heavy. I dunno.

How are you guys setting up the elevators on this plane?? I will be running a saito 1.00 on it and Im just wondering if it will find balance without adding weight if I go with two servos mounted in the tail, opposed to the way they have one servo mounted in the fues with a split on it?? A 90 sized plane with one elevator servo run on a split bothers me.

I installed 2 servos in the tail for elevators and it balanced ok with a saito 100. I mounted the battery (4.5 oz) in the front behind the firewall and replaced the stock tank with a bigger one.
