Default Travel Volume

I am setting up for 3D flight using a JR 10SX. 8411`s through out and need a little advise on ATV. The default on my radio is 100% travel volume. I can get the degrees of throw with Hanger9 3D servo arms easy enough.

My questions are would it be better to move my pushrod closer to the servo and set the radio`s travel volume to 150%? I know I can gain more power this way but I don't understand the extra 50%. going from 100% to 150% am I making my servo travel more then it was intended?

The airplane is 72" wing, weight expected to be 11lbs.

The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Use as much servo travel as you can get and adjust the linkage for the proper throw. This gives the servo the greatest mechanical advantage, as well as reduce the amount the control surface will move from "gear slop" at the center. Moving the pushrod closer to the servo also unloads the servo bearing supports and the gear train. the additional travel will not harm the servo, in fact 100% travel on Hitec is not the same as Futaba or JR as the output of the radio systems are not matched, and on occasion the different radios may even have a different servo center. :^)

You should always use as much ATV as possible, especially on 8411's because that will give you the best reolution in the servo.

Thanks guys. I got my ATV set to 150% and still got the control throw I was told to get. I have 45 degrees on rudder, 40 degrees on both elevator and aileron. The 150% sure helped tame it down at center. I think combined with exponential adjustments and dual rates I should be set to go.

The closest 3D pilot to me lives 4 hours away which makes it kinda difficult at times to figure out what I need for a good setup. I will have more questions in the near future...Thanks for now.

Marty
