YS 1.40 is perfect motor. You be around 10.25 with it maybe less. That will be a rocket.

Some more pics thanks to Chris Maier. There is a nice shot of the canister channel and some other areas. We'll get some pics of the floating wing and servo placement too. The h-stab is attached by CF tube as well. The landing gear plug in and can easily be removed and replaced without any tools. I expect to see this system in many more planes in the futre.

This ain't your Daddy's Giles

I'm not sure what Chris has on his. The Ultra RC test model was flown with Brison 2.4. The OMP company plane has a YS 1.40.

The plane is so light you have lots of room for lots of choices while still keepin mainting a light wing loading.

Hey, i've seen those pics before.. haha, o wait , i took them...

Yes, i have a OS. 1.60 FX in it with the Slimline pitts muffler. and this thing is amazing, i have like 20 or so flights on it, and am just loving it. You can do so much crap with it, that you can only dream to do with a foamy!

Thanks,

Chris

O, BTW.... The picture of the Red Extra behind the Giles. I thought was a neat idea. That is my 43% RadioCraft Extra 330LX, and the 29% Giles next to it.

The Giles is a perfect size plane, not to big, not to small.. and flys like a foamy in 3D ways, but is as stable and flys pattern like a 40%er.

thanks for the info Chris, I am wondering if you had any plumbing problems with the 160 and the Pitts muffler? I have one and its a PITA so I had to pump it with a Perry

An MVVS gasser on a pipe would be very cool on this airplane! How long is the pipe tunnel Dion? I have this power setup on an Ultra Stick Lite that comes in at 11 pounds and it is a hoot. I've been looking for something more scale than a "stick" for some time now.

David the channel is not long enough for the MVVS pipe, that suckers as long as a baseball bat, if that's the one your talking about. This channel was made for a canister or sport pipe. I'll get the exact dimensions but you'll prolly have to engineer something for that pipe if you go that route. I don't have Giles with me here in NY, but I'll be going out to Dayton to fly it in a week or so.

Hitec 645's or 5625's are good servos for the plane.

The Pipe is 20" long 2" high, and 3" wide.

As for the os 1.60fx. I have had 3 of these engines and they all run great. This one with the pitts muffler runs even better. I do NOT have any promlems with it drawing fule or anything, no need for a pump if you mount it up front.

I am actually running Hitec's 6975HB's in her... 144oz at .1sec amazing servo's and then a 225 on throttle.

I actually wanted the MVVS 1.6 for this, but to my understanding it is now the Evolution 1.6 and it is not out yet.

Video coming soon...

Thanks,

Chris

The Evo 1.6 is made for Horizon. The engine is identical, but the ignition on the Evo verison is "simplified" and less costly according to the factory.

The MVVS 1.6 is indeed available - I have stock on the engines and the pipes.

If your looking to put 1.6 Evolution you should consider the new Mark 1.8 gasser from Morris Hobbies. That motor is supposed to have a heck of a lot of pull almost as much as or real close to the MVVS 2.15.

More pics.

Yeah but it'a a slug at 3.25 pounds! That's close to the weight of a DA50! If you want to get that big, the MVVS 45 is 3 pounds on the nose with ignition.

The wing setup on this Giles is something that Composite-ARF is doing... Its the "Free Floating" wing design... as you can see in those picstures that you have 4 bolt blocks and about 4" of room for you to move the wing forward and back...

What you do is move the wing forward or back to where it balances to your likeing and flying style. Very cool, and simple... all you do is drill new holes in the mounting blocks where you want to re-posistion the wing.

Yeah, thanks for the info on the MVVS 1.6 ... when I was putting this plane together They didnt have any in stock.. so i got the OS. 1.60.

Thanks,

Chris

if i could get a hold of a YS 1.40 for less then 100 million bucks, id get it, but i guess im gonna have to settle for a Saito 180, [:'(] ugh.

I am starting to want this thing MORE and MORE! Chris, any chance you can come to exeter with it and let me fly it? lol, seriously though, this sunday i dont think we got anything planned, so if you got some free time, come on over, bring the giles, your extra, or anythin else, cuz we haven't flown together "officialy" yet.

Where is the best place for the wing for 3D and the spot for Pattern? this plane could easily be my IMAC practice plane, for when i dont feel like loading up the trailer with the Yak.

Chris, if you wanna meet up, email me at [email protected], or AIM me at Mudsurfer1234, or MSN at [email protected] lol.

Anxiously waiting shipment,
Scott

I know how the system works, but how does it hold up for a longer period?? Won't it become loose or something?? How is it in small bumps/crashes??

Scott,

If this is going to be your IMAC practice plane and you are going to put the SA180 in it your fuel costs are going to be thru the roof. Get the 1.6FX with cline and run 5%. The 1.6FX will sip cheap 5% on this 10.5 pound plane--fuel costs will be 1/2 to 1/3 that of the 180 and there will be no sacrifice in power.
