Let's see, HUM, what combos can I remember

Da50
Brison 3.2
BME 50
Fuji 43
OS160
And two very powerful recently posted electric setups.

We all said it before, screw your favorite 50cc on the nose and have a blast. There are a couple of must do mods but the rest is personal choice. a1pcfixer did an excellent job listing all of the links to the mods

Ok my brison 3.2 needs a new plug i think. it was gurgilling alot and sounded like it was going to shut off through the last flight. it has a Bosch R10 plug in it is that right and where do i get one? i'd hate to lose my ultimate over a bad plug.

Pull the plug out and look at the color, if it's dark then you are too rich which is what it sounds like. If it's a medium dark (slightly rich) to light tan, then the mixture is correct. You can also just clean the plug while you have it out. About the only time you really need to replace the plug is if the electrodes are worn.

Also, is it gurgling when the plane is in a certain attitude.

My Brison 3.2 needed the vent tube fix because in certain maneuvers, then engine would go rich. If you can pull the plug right after running it and post a pick, that would certainly help us help you

Go to your local lawnmower or small engine shop and have them order you a couple of Champion RCJ6Y plugs. They may have them in stock.

Default RE: Great planes ultimate 160

ok you guys I just had to have one of these planes after reading this thread and drooling over the advertising
I went to LHS and got one for $369

I would like some input from you guys on what mods are needed. I will do the CF strip laminated to the wing joiners and use flat pinned hinges glued
in with pacer hinge glue. I have read most if not all of this thread, great info but not sure about the landing gear to mod or not to mod.

feel free to give me your ideas of the best setup you would do if you did it over. I will be going gas for sure, A first for me.
what do you guys think of the evolution 45?

also servos, power box or no power box nessasary. I read maudib's setup using A voltage Reg. with two batt leads instad of A power box that sounded like A great setup as always cost is an issue but I dont want to lose A great plane for being cheap.

Can somebody confirm the monokote colors for me? Everything online and in the manual says it's Missile Red and Saphire Blue, but I have two rolls of Missile Red and it's definitely not the same. Is it maybe True Red?

I also have some Insignia Blue which doesn't match, so the Saphire Blue is probably correct. My LHS doesn't have True Red or Saphire Blue, so I'll have to order some and I want to make sure before I buy.

Thanks,
scott

The blue is Saphire Blue (TOPQ0226).

Yeah, the red is definetely not missle red, I found that out after an 1.5 hour round trip to the hobby store, haha. Don't know what color it really is, I got creative with white where I needed to repair it instead.

Try some of the econo coat colors, when I needed to color match one of their arfs before, I found that the econo coat was dead on. Worth a try..

Hey folks, How did the lateral balance come out for you guys that are running the DA50... I put the ignition battery (1800 mAh NoBS Nicad) on the left side of the motor box and the ignition module or the right side. By lefting the plane carefully by the spinner, I'm needing 1.8 oz on the right wing tip to balance out.

Inside should be as close as I can get. Receiver in the middle with a 2400 mAh Fromeco Li-on on each side of it. guess I can try moving the ignition battery to the right side and see how much help that is, But I was curious how you other folks made out and if any of you had to fudge stuff around to balance out laterally.

thanks in advance

Try the lateral balance on your Ulti like this. Instead of lifting by the spinner, pick the front of the plane up by the tip of the prop when vertical. Make sure that the engine is not on the compression stroke or the piston is not at TDC.
I did not have to add any weight at all. The balance, both lateral and at cg was perfect.

First post in this forum. I just picked up my Ultimate 160 yesterday. What a beautiful box of parts that I can turn into an airplane. I have been reading all the posts here. There is a lot of great info to obsorb. I am up to page 76. It will take me a few more days to read the rest. All I have for engines are a Quadra 42 and a Tartan twin EI (44cc) Both are just under 4 pounds. I will go with the tartan for now until I can get a better engine. I have learned a lot reading your posts and will use this info to my advantage. Thanks to all for your valuable information.

Nitromark, that's my new plane exactly ! Just maidened two weeks ago and have put 3 flights on it so far. Tremendous power and good combination so far ....

I have it on DX7 w/4 LiIon 2400 batteries (Fromeco) two on servos (all Hitec 5955 TG's) one on Rx one on ignition - all w/regulators. Am using I4C power box. CG was perfect when I was all done . Took off w/one click of aileron trim and one of elevator. Matchbox on elevator and bottom wing on Aux1 channel on DX7 . Have Jomar optical kill switch but haven't gotten it to work yet ...some kind of wiring problem I'm sure.

Haven't done a lot yet but so far it flies absolutely beautifully ! Knife edge is easy, aileron roll rate is ridiculously fast even on low rates . Engine is still rich but am going to lean it a tiny bit Sat. Am flying on Lawn Boy for 5 gals. so it spits out a tiny bit of black soot ! Landing was easiest I have ever had on ANY plane for 50years ! All three flights it just eased in for perfect landing w/ no bad quirks at all - amazing to me !

I am nowhere near full power potential as am just beginning breakin - rpms only at under 5000 thus far . Engine runs beautifully - of course ! 22/8 wood prop but will trade up to 22/8 Mezjek (sp) when broken in.

I'll try and post a pix next week as I have a beautiful trim scheme I got from David Johnson using "bling" vinyl - georgeous....

Have been reading through posts and am a bit concerned about my wings. I did not reinforce wing joiners when I built it - is there anything I can do now short of building wings over again? Anybody tried to modify them after they were built?

Thanks IFly;

picking it up by the prop as you suggested dropped the lateral imbalance down to about .6 onces instead of 1.8 onces. I can try moving the ignition battery to the other side and see if that helps. In either case .6 oz will be much easier to resolve then the 1.8oz issues.

I went back a couple of pages and did not see what engine you are using, 5000rpm's seems a bit slow for anything below a 150cc and even slow for that size.

I found for this plane either the Mezjlik props, the PT Model from TBM or the best do far was a 22B Vess on a 50cc engine. The Vess does load the engine a bit but gives the control surfaces was more airflow, plus they do not look to bad

I'm ready to pull the trigger on my own Ultimate, but I'm a bit worried about the "folding wings in flight" mentioned here. Where can I read about it? Is there an easy fix? I'm planning on using a brison 3.2 on mine, with appropriate servos and radio. Been through a bunch of that 'monster" thread on the Ultimate, but can't find anything about the fix for the wing problem, if it exists.

thanks!

aipcfixer has done an excellent job of putting all the mods into one place

Here is a link to his post that includes links to all of the mods we have ever done, including different ways to strengthen the wing joiner

Sorry Bubba, I am using DA50R .. I know it is slow but am trying to sneak up on full bore giving engine plenty of time to break-in....I'm probably too conservative but haven't done any fix on wing problem yet ...

You could remove the covering near the center sections, and glass them to add some strength. you could also include flying wires between the wings on each side like many full scale bipes. If done correctly, it would add significant strength.
