Default H9 Ultra Stick 40 Saito 82 Photos and question

I just put the Saito 82 on my H9 Ultra Stick. (See photos) I have it on it's side, just like the way I had the old motor mounted. (GMS 40). Is this OK. How can you check the balance if is is heavy on the left or right (I think it is called the Lateral Balence). Also, does anybody know the CG on this plane.

Horizon Hobby might have a manual online.

If you want to check the lateral balance, put it into a stall and see which way it rolls to. If it doesn't roll, the lateral balance is correct or at least close. Basically you measure the center of the firewall and the center of the tail and somehow hold it up at those two points. If it tips one direction, it's heavier on that side. I have a YS 63S (basically same weight as the 82) on mine and it doesn't really roll in a stall. Of course, I modified mine and put the elevator servo on the opposite side. It's probably still not balance, but it's so close I don't really notice.

A YS 63S is awesome on this airplane by the way. Incredible verticle even at 5000 Ft.

CG is 3 1/2 to 4 inches back from the leading edge of the wing on the Ultra Stick 40.And you can download the manual from Horizon Hobby.Great plane!! Have fun.

Neverquit, Here's what I did. I mounted an O.S. 70 on mine and it was mounted side ways. Ran just fine but it does add some weight out to one side. You can check your CG and lateral balance by installing a small eye bolt in the centerline of the wing right at the CG point and hang the plane from some cord. I had to add about 1/2 oz. of lead to the left wing tip to get it to balance straight. Be sure to check it without fuel in the tank. [8D]

You may want to consider flipping the carb around so the high speed needle is on top. This makes tuning much easier than having to reach underneath the engine.
