RE: Great Planes 25% Yak 81" 12-lb, seen on Fly3D Magazine
Just did my 30 minute break-in on the 45GX. Can't wait to maiden this weekend! I was pulling 6300 rpm with a 22x8 prop.
Has anyone had any problem with black oil coming from the exhaust? It was not a lot and it was coming from the exhaust pipes, not around the seal. I'm thinking it might just be the oil Evolution included with the engine.
Thanks

Corwin,
I'll be real curious to hear your flight report with that 22x8 prop.
I've recently changed from an OS 1.60 to a BCMA SPE 40 on mine, still spinning a Menz 20x8, at 6600+. Plane STILL doesn't quite have the vetical I'm hoping for. I think a 22x8 or so might just do the trick, and I suspect I'd get about the same 6300 or so you're getting out of it, but I'm just not sure 6300 rpm will be enough. So, by all means, please share your impressions of the plane's performance when you maiden her.

Corwin,
I am looking forward to hear your experience with 45GX. I am on the list for BME 55, however, there is no telling on when it will become available.
Therefore, most likely, June 1st, I am ordering 45GX.

If you really have time on your hands, you can open the molded louvers in the cowl...
I am quite surprised to see in your pictures that the size of the air intake is much larger than air exhaust. I was checking the topic for my QQ Yak (QQ recommends just opening the narrow area in the cowl that is in front of the engine and leaving the rest closed) and was told it is absolutely imperative to have an exhaust area at least twice larger than the intake...

I am planning to put
DA50R (OR)
BGX 3500 with Slimline Smoke muffler.
What do you think?
Both of them are lighter than Fuji43.

Of course they will not recommend it, they don't build it. Throttle Management! is key from what others say....or it will not last.

Hi ons_pk,
Have you bought your Yak here in the UK and if so who from? (because I didn't think that they were being imported yet [>:] )
or
are you bringing one over from the USA?

The standoffs for the DA-50 are 3" and your right! The will not recomend because they dont build it! But if you wanna have some fun get the DA.
I will be changing cowls this week so if you want I will shoot some pics over to you of the engine and cowling for the DA.

Well, I bought another Yak.. The crash of the old GP was to much to bear. I put all the old equipment on it, DA50, Hitec servos, JR on the rudder, I atched it today, 7325 with the 22X8. 90deg, high humidity. Ill try to stay a few feet above the runway this time. The DA pulls this thing like crazy, Im gonna try a 23 or 24x8 prop, more thrust less speed. I still have a tucking problem, pulls to belly in a knife edge. Below are the pics of the Yak2, My grandson had to in there [8D]

Dave
I have the same problem on the KE you might want to mix in a little elevator. I like the 23X10 MEZ CF prop.

I've got a mix programmed for KE that seems to work well. I've got 3% opposite aileron and 9% up elevator mixed to the rudder, on a single switch.

No sweat on the oil residue. The break-in oil is probably non-synthetic, and hard to burn in. Once you go to something like Mobil 2T there will be a lot less oil residue. I am planning on using the break-in oil for at least 2 Gallons without messing with the mixture needles, and when ready for synthetic I may go leaner.

I'm thinking of ordering a set for my Yak from them. Can you give me some info on them? Good people to do business with? Quality stuff? Turnaround time on an order? Etc.
Thanks!

I mounted the engine with a set of 2" standoffs from forgues -research.com/">Forques Research, and the prop hub is sitting right at the middle of the recommended range of 6 3/4' to 7 1/4" from the engine box. Roger Forques will build you custom length standoffs, with whatever thread size you desire, and they can be anodized in your favorite color too.
Thanks!
