MustangAce my mount is 3" long. It looks like i have just a little more clearance than you. I wonder if the carb on the GK version sits back a little farther?

It is supposed to be identical only the metal color is different. Can you post pics. It doesn't really matter if you don't get 4 3/4 in from the firewall to thrust washer.

Really designed for the 91fx or 61fx. The 91 would be my choice of the two.

I second the 91. You can always manage your throttle.

I fly in Doylestown. Our field sits out in a farmers field southwest of town.

You might just have to grab a plane and come back for a visit this summer. I can let you know when my club has our fly-in. Makes for a good excuse for a vacation.

ORIGINAL: MustangAce

last but not least. Notice the contact of carb bolt with mount bolt at firewall (vibration damage if mounted this way) Also this goes against recommendations of "not more than 4 3/4 in from firewall to thrust washer" (for cowling spacing) Like this it would be at 5 3/16 in.

I've had the same issue on other planes in the past - my workaround is for that one bolt head, I take a drillbit slightly larger in diameter than the head of the bolt and set the depth on my drill press so that I countersink the head of the bolt down flush with the motormount.

After looking around, I decided to get the Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle. Hobby-Lobby honored their price guarantee, and sold me one for well under any advertised price I could find.

Opening the box, after the three day Fed Ex delivery time was a true pleasure. The Fliton looks great!

good luck with the fliton. had one till the cf wing tube snapped in a slow wall. I've heard other people have problems with the wing tube also. I contacted fliton 3 months ago and was told to take some pics and send it in with a copy of the receipt. well several months later and several emails later still no word from fliton. plane flew well but had a lot to do when it came to build time. instructions very vague also. I've built several planes so it wasn't a problem, but for someone new they might. reminded me of my shocky's instructions.

Yes, the directions are less than stellar. Many ARFs now come with similar directions. I can ARF with the best of them, so I don't forsee any problems.

H9 and GP are tops for directions.

I'll take a look at the carbon rod again. It did hit me as a bit thin. Maybe it's worth looking around cyberspace for a replacement, to avoid destroying the plane.

I also got an MK bellcrank, as I can't stand wooden dowel split "Y" elevator rods. I'll do a carbon rod to the bellcrank.

Ok guys we finally got this one figured out. All you have to do is flip the mount over so that the webing is opposite the motor and everything will clear. If you have any questions on this please ask. Also I want to thank all of you for being so patiente wi'll we figuered all of this out.

Thanks,
Mark

Well guys with a little work my edge will be making its maiden voyage tomarrow. Mark i fixed my mount a little different than you suggested. If you flip the mount over it looks like you will throw off the thrust line. I may be wrong. I just took my dremmel and cut the mount down about 1/8 inch and it works like a charm. Hopefully i can get some video also.

hi guy,
i just built mine lastnight. too bad i didn't see this post till today. i ended up using a greatplanes mount and reset the mount 90*. then the fuel tank didn't go all the way back in place. so i made a tank mount and moved the whole unit back abiut 1.5 inches. i used a saito 100, hi-tec 635hb and a 5cell placed all the way forward in the wing saddle and its still tail heavy. anyone else finding this model needing alot of nose weight?
mine is done and ready to go. she looks great. i hope the weather is good tomarrow i will maiden her if it is.

Are you sure you are checking the cg in correct place? I have seen and flown 3 of these with the 100 and all balanced dead on or just a little nose heavy. I have finally gotten a good vid and we hope to have it on the website in the next week or so. cmircman can you post a pic of what you did. Also i am pretty sure the way i mentioned will work also every one i have talked to in the area did theres this way and it came out fine.

i just moved the battery right in front of the landing gear and it balanced out right at 2.75inches.
one thing i would liked to have seen was a bigger fuel tank. aeroworks promo for this plane is that its a little plane thats built specifically to handle larger engines. the fuel tank supplied is the smallest i've seen in any 40 sized arf. i'm going to give it a try but i don't think it will last more than 4-5 minutes with my saito 100

me too, this thing looks great and that saito is just bursting out the side. i'm having radio trouble right now.
the right ail twitch real bad when i just touch the rudder. i tried two recivers and two crystals. i know its not the servo cause if i cross ch1 and ch6 it moves to the left ail. any thoughts?

My buddy has about 15 flights on his now and it flys very well. Aeroworks sent him a retro-fit kit for beefing up the area forward of the landing gear. Has anyone else got this retro-fit kit yet? With the YS 91 the plane is a little nose heavy for 3D, but it still does good flat spins but doesn't quite keep the nose up in knife-edge spins. The motor is more than enough power for pulling out of torque rolls. We will have to play with the CG a little. It is set up at the recomended CG for now.

Well guys got to take mine on its maiden today and all i can say is WOW!! This plane is amazing!! Its a good thing that aeroworks does not make to many small aircraft because then i would need another job to pay for more planes. With my plane with a sloppy rich running saito 100 it flew great. Knife edge was nice. I have to work on the cg because i like my planes to fly a little tail heavy. But even being nose heavy a hover was effortless. This thing flies so much better than my old F90 ever did and you don't even have to worry about the wings ripping off. Mark i will be calling Kim and Rocco tomorrow to tell them thanks for a wonderful plane!!

Ditto! Flew mine a couple of laps at dusk. No hovering yet with the engine not broken in. Real impressed with the light wing loading. Cowling mounting was a non issue with a 1/8 inch ground out of the mount at that mount screw. I purchased a Graupner cheesehead slotted screw from Hobby Lobby International to give me a little more room. Worked great. I can't wait to ring it out!
