The exclusive distributor - meaning that you WILL get parts, if needed - is Troy Built Models. Their newsletter pointed out that the manufacturer is NOT supporting any inventory/stock from the initial shipment that was not "authorized" for sale by S D Models (the manufacturer). There are other threads full of the "scoop" on all this garbage.

It seems that early buyers of these will not get parts.
Current and future buyers will, if purchased through Troy Built.

At least that is what Troy Built's newsletter that I got last Friday stated.

BTW - TBM really is offering these right now at a VERY competitive price...

what do you do with the manual choke linkage, you obviously dont want it to float around inside the cowl.

DrLector

I checked my spam filter today and there was an email from you. I will take pics of my extra and post them tomorrow. i have a DA 50 with a K&S Canister muffler and let me tell you that is one sweet combo. I have a manual choke on mine. I made a wire that I access through the front of the cowl. It is a really simple set up and easy to make. A picture will be worth a thousand words. This is one fantastic bird.

drlector,

I finally got break from work and got to the garage. Here are the pictures of my choke and canister setup. I am running the DA 50 with a K&S canister header. I pull a 23 X 8 prop. This combo is super quiet and extremely powerful.

Gdeezer.

I just finished mine tonight, trying to get out tomarrow if the weather permits. I fired it up today, the power is unreal. Its loud with the pitts muffler. Im worried about the engine box top. Are you going to leave yours off?

Yes, I left the top off. I haven't noticed any strength issues. I like having access to components. I have had other planes that did not have a full box so I am not concerned. You are going to love this plane. Weather permitting I am going out today also. How did you choke your engine?

I used a manual choke very similar to yours. I will send pictures so you can see. What was your final CG? There was some contravercy about the manual being incorrect.

Well the maiden is over with, Mr. E, Skyesdad and I were at Lake Dallas today and it couldn't have been a better day to fly, about 72 and a cross wind about 5 MPH.

Fired the DA up no problem, I forgot to tighten my clevis on my aileron so it fell off right away on the ground so we fixed that, Thanks for the help Skyesdad, anyway maiden was no problem, needed some down trim because it was tail heavy. But flew great considering.

I will adjust the CG tonight and hopefully get some more flights on it this week, snaps are crisp they stop on a dime, wing rock was minimal, I would say I am in the 16lb range the way the DA flew it, it has unlimited vertical climb, hovers at about 1/2 throttle, I am turning the Vess 23A at 6600, on the ground. I am very happy with this plane it had no bad tendencies considering how tail heavy it was, ask Mr. E, landings were fun, but no problem. Knife edge may need a little mix but I won't know until the CG is right, I only need to move it about 1/2 inch forward.

SO here are some pics from the field today and a short video, the video is of the 2nd or 3rd flight, but the battery was dead on the camera so it was just a little bit of footage. I will get more next time out.

Good video! THanks for posting the link. Beautiful flying day, there....the CG issue - seems many of us have felt the "stock" CG was tail-heavy. Did you set yours up at the suggested starting location? Mine was definitely too far aft using that figure. Would like to hear where you end up with yours.

Good rpm numbers on the Vess.... looks like it was pulling really well, but also letting you slow up easily, too. I think you probably were smilin' a bit ???
Congrats on the maiden..... she's a keeper!

drlector,

I had to add 3 oz to get mine to balance at the recommended CG. I still think it is too far aft for my taste. I also had to thrust line problems. When I cut the throttle, the bird would balloon up. I dont like diving my plane to land! I added two washers under the bottom bolts and it was a great improvement. Aerobob also thought the CG was too far aft. I would be curious to see what everyone is flyng theirs at cg-wise. Even with that one flaw, this is one Heck of a plane!

I wouldn't call it a flaw, you just have to plan for it, I flew mine about 5 more times today and got the CG dialed in, I just moved my batteries forward, Now when inverted it needs just a touch of down elevator, that is how I like it anyway, this puts my CG just at 6.5 inches. I think the bird flies great, I flew the basic sequence today and it was on rails, I didn't have any thrust line issues.

Your video is sick. Nice harrrier rolls. As soon as weather clears up I will be doing a maiden flight myself. Looks like you had plenty of power with the DA.

Well I haven't had a chance to get anymore video yet, but I will.
I replaced the stock landing gear with Carbon gear from GraphTech, they have it now by the way, Mike made it up for this plane. Thanks to GraphTech, they were very helpful and made it for me from a mold they had, it is way better and about 1 inch taller which is helpful, I nicked a brand new Vess 23a and had to replace it...this won't happen with the carbon gear. I also have ordered a 3.5 inch Carbon spinner from Espirit Models, the stock one is JUNK, as you tighten the stock one down it actually would flex the back plate. I am still not happy with my CG, still too far AFT, when inverted at a 45 it wants to climb slightly. I have ordered the carbon stab tube and will install this tonight and hopefully get my CG more forward. I still can go further forward with my batteries too. I have about 15-20 flights on this plane now and it is awesome, I am thinking of adding something the top of the wings though seems a little hard to see at times with nothing on the tips. It flies IMAC very good, it has a good locked in feel to it, 3D is no problem the DA50 has plently of juice, I am sure this plane is around 16lbs the way it flies I will get a scale soon, have any of you guys used a digital fish scale before? Are they worth it? Here is a pic of the new landing gear...looks sweet and is rock solid!

Conrad

No issues yet. I am looking for an airframe for a Brison 3.2 and was considering one of these. I found a good deal on one but I'm undecided at this point. Looks like you automatically need an extra $50.00 for decent landing gear (Graphtech has a sale on them).

Bob and all,

I am thinking about getting the 30%. Just wonder if you know the diameter for the wing/stab stubs since I have some spare CF long ones (1.25").

Thanks -qc

I have a build thread and a comparison on this thread I believe, they both fly very well, I would have to give the YAK top honors here as a 3D plane, as for IMAC the 260 is way better.
