Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
Well, my Fliton Inspire 60 and a YS .63 showed up today for an RCU review. We are going to start documenting some of the reviews with a sneak peek build thread in one of the forums so that we can get YOUR input on what issues you are having and get them worked out as a team. I have read numerous threads about reviews missing some key issues, so Minnflyer and I are going to try this approach and see if we can use the information here to improve the reviews.
All I ask is that if you have any critiques or concerns, please dont use this as a complaint thread. If you have problems just state them in a positive and productive manner so that we can work through them and get the most out of what is discussed here.
So far I have taken a look in the box and the plane looks to be in great shape. The engine is also shiny and new as expected. I am a big fan of YS engines and have always wanted to try a .63 since I have one in every other size except the 1.10. Cant wait to get started on this one. We will see how this plane fares compared to the videos on the fliton site. www.fliton.com.

RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
One piece of information I want to provide right away since it has been discussed here before is the landing gear. I emailed Fliton and asked them about it. Here is a quote directly from Fliton regarding the concern with the camber of the landing gear. That is that the bottom of the wheels point inward somewhat when the plane is initially completed.
Fliton writes:
"The majority of the questions we get about the Inspire 60 are in regards to the negative camber on the landing gears. Please advise that they were designed this way for structural integrity and to lighten the load off of the gear plate center. You will notice that the gears will bend into position over a short period of time. This has proven to be very successful thus far for us although it does look slightly abnormal at first build."

It would be very informative, if you guys replace the stock hardware, if you'd go into detail as to why the replacements were chosen and how you went about installing it.

RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
For the review I am not going to replace any of the stock hardware. I want to review the plane as is unless its just absolutely necessary. However, I can see already that the pushrods are relatively heavy. I will probably replace these later on with Carbon Fiber Pushrods with Titanium ends. You can buy them as a set from Central Hobbies. There is also a fair amount of weight in the tailwheel assembly that can be eliminated with an MK tailwheel from central. Those are two places I can see right away that there is potential weight savings. Not a lot, but maybe 2-3 oz total.
The landing gear are super light. They have a really nice paint job so I cannot tell what they are made of but they are LIGHT. Also the wing tube is carbon Fiber.
The control surfaces are huge RVM! I like that. The ailerons have almost as much chord as the wing and the elevators are huge as well.[8D]

Mike,
I really like your observations and hope that you will stick to your outline of building the model as it comes out of the box. I did this with the only change being to the Saito 82 (with cline pump) in place of the depicted YS63. My servos were smaller than the standard size. But the weight easily hit their target weight. It all worked great with no issues at all! I subsequently thought it would be interesting to see how light I can make it so it now has JR368 Micro digital servos and a 700 mah NiMH battery. And I did pull the pushrods and sub the carbon rods with ball end links glued on. 5.3 pounds! This thing is great fun and makes a 3D pilot out of every sport flyer around.

I would like to know your opinion of the dowel rod connecting the 2 elevator halves, and do you have plans to replace it.
Looking forward to your report....gives me time to wear the wife down...

lol, you are still about 70 miles away WNW at barnstormers. I have a few friends that fly up there. Shoot me a PM when you get time and its done and you can head over my way. Here is where I am. I know exactly where Lake Jackson is, I have been there for girls fastpitch softball tournaments.[8D]

I am starting to look at how the plane is assembled and I see no problems with the dowel setup that they are using. It should work well. The slot in the elevators to receive the dowel is precision cut and a tight fit. There are slots cut in the dowel so that the CA hinges pass though the dowel to aid in alignment. The elevators are preslotted and the test fit looks to be perfect. The only issue I see with the dowel is taking the time to carefully apply the epoxy and using the minimu amount to keep the weight down in the tail.

Sorry I have not posted anything in the last day or so. I found that the vertical fin was damaged during shipping. It looks like despite the "Fragile" labels all over the box, FEDEX dropped the box on its end and damaged the fin. Its clearly damage due to the plane being dropped on the rudder post end of the box. I spoke with Fliton and they are shipping me a new fuselage and I am shipping them the damaged one back. Also I have the ailerons hinged and have some pictures at home ready to post, but right now I am away from my house due to a power outage. I live right on the Texas coast and we are getting hammered with high winds and lots of rain.

yeah it gets fairly pricey.
charger: $200
balancer: $100
then on top of that, for this plane you'll need:
batteries: $320
speed control: $180
UBEC: $50
but no greasy mess, engine tuning, starting problems, greasy mess, fuel costs, greasy mess...
hehe

Those CH pushrod sets are amazing. I am installing them on my ailerons and elevators on my Fliton Extra 330. They're light, strong and rigid. Great combo with DuBro .40-.91 HD horns and the DuBro 2-56 ball links on the arms.
What kind of servo arms are you going to use? I am using SonicTronics long composite arms, and I have some DuBro long arms too. I was surprised by the SonicTronics - they appear to be very well made.

Did they not use hot glue to build the Inspire? I know my Extra has this white stuff that looks like really thin hot glue.

I am just going to use the standard 1 1/4" Futaba Servo arms more than likely. For a plane this size I dont think anything more is really necessary. I am probably going to use Futaba 9151's on the elevator, rudder and 9150's on the ailerons. I have them lying around and they are about brand new they should be PLENTY fast and strong for this plane.. [8D]
