my st50 saito .82, dx7 with ds821 servo's and hitec 5645 on rudder. i like to route the crank vent line down the landing gear for less clean up afterwards.

My Showtime 50 with an O.S. 55AX. The 55 is enough for 3D. I've got a Thunder Tiger 61 that's homeless. Maybe I'll shove it in the nose...

What kind of battery pack do you recommend for x50. I'm really new in NiMH/Cd batteries. I'm looking for 5cell and light pack with appropriate capacity.
As far as I understand the capacity is not proportional to weight all the time?(Like LiPos)

Default RE: Showtime 50 anyone?

this is what i have in mine- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNHS4&P=ML if you plan on doing 3D, id get a 6 Volt pack(6 Volts make your servos quicker and add more torque) , if youre looking for more of a pattern flyer and less weight, id stick with a 4.8V pack. here- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLX47&P=7 Hydrimax batteries are AWESOME, i have not had an issue with these packs. 2000mah is a good choice because whether you are doing 3D or pattern flying, it will keep you in the air flying. I went through a gallon of fuel one day on one charge(however i DID have a VOLTWATCH onboard) When you hold down on an input, or multiple inputs, you strain the battery in a sense where if it is not sufficient, it could lock up youre reciever due to insufficient voltage. While rare, i have seen it happen. I run Futaba 3010 servos(high speed high torque standard analog servos) and as power hungry as they are, i have not had a single issue with 3D flying, even after 5-6 flights. But as far as capacity to weight goes, yes you should accomodate a heavier plane with higher capacity batteries, because the heavier youre plane is, it will require heavier duty servos (if not MORE servos) and the stronger the servos the more current they will draw. but for this plane, the Hydrimax is what i recommend, as youll have more than enough to fly for the day. Hope this helps, anyone else wanna chime in here?

i would agree with firestone1121 i use the hydrimax 2000 6volt batteries and use all digital servos and the they hold a good charge for a long time. have not had any issues with them and they are inexpensive to.

I wrecked my ST50, ordered new parts from Horizon, and have it now back up in the air flying. My problem is that the tail seems pretty sluggish in flight. The only way to have the plane flying straight - as in when it doesn't look like it's flying at an angle of attack - is to fly at full throttle. When I land, the tail wheel touches down first every time. I have it narrowed down to two things: either the CG is off or i messed up the thrust line when rebuilding. I'm not using anything out of the ordinary on this plane - saito 82 and regular 47oz JR servos. I also went ahead and moved the battery forward from it's stock location to move the CG forward, and it still flies like this. When i look at the plane from the side (looking at its profile), i notice that the propeller points slightly up. I think that most planes have the thrust line pointing slightly down and not up, right? What do y'all think, what could be causing my odd flying characteristics???

My Showtime 50 is arriving on Friday. I would also like to mount an OS 55 AX up front, my only concern is that I will have to change mufflers or modify the fuselage to accomodate that square muffler. Does it fit? If not, what muffler are you using?
Thanks in advance,

Ray

The stock muffler will fit if you use an extention between the muffler and the engine. I used a Bisson pitts muffler.

Thanks OK2Fly,

Getting things like extensions or different mufflers is difficult where I live in rural South Africa.
Luckily my wife surprised me with a Saito .82 for my birthday so I will be using that

Anybody have any tips on which prop and fuel to run with my setup (showtime 50 with Saito 82)?
I am not a 3D pilot, not yet anyway, and will be using this plane as a sports plane/pattern trainer and don't initially want to set it up as an out and out 3D flyer.

Thanks,
Ray

i don't know what your altitude is mine is close to sea level but my saito .82 runs great on wildcat 20/20 mix and i really like the apc 14/4 fun fly prop. that combo really seems to be best for me. im triing to learn 3d but normal flying and just having fun really seems to work good.

Thanks James,

I am at about 1000 feet above sea level.
I will give the 14/4 a go.

I just put my O.S. 91 Four Stroke in it, took some modifying, plus a larger gas tank...a 14x4 prop, haven't finished yet, a lot of work for a non-builder...

Depends on how the plane was broken (and put back together) and your current CG. My 50 is a little tail-heavy, but I can still maintain a "flat" angle of attack at anything above 1/5 throttle [OS 55 ax].

Do you have any pics? That would help.

I maidened my Showtime and I don't know why I was so nervous. I am a beginner pilot, only ever having flown trainers and stiks but this plane lands more easily than my Big Stik and tracks very well with a gentle stall. So much for the horror stories of how badly behaved tail draggers are on the ground! Just feed in power gently and up she goes.
Thanks for the tip James, that 14/4 prop is a blast on the .82.
I have my two elevator servos plugged in to different channels (ele and aux1 mixed on my JR 2610) and after trimming the plane in the air I realised I was only trimming one elevator servo, is there a work around for this?

Don't know who is saying tail draggers are badly behaved on the ground, they do much better than high wind tricycle gear airplaines, you can taxi and fly a tail dragger on windy and crosswind days when a tricycle high wing airplane will not be able to taxi without flipping over sideways or nosing over. Some warbirds nose over, that might be what you are thinking about.

As far as pictures, the cowl is mangled, I had it cut for a Evo 52NX, now it is cut for the O.S. 91 FS, so it is not pretty...LOL.

I'm going to get another cowl after flying it a few times and checking everything out. It should be able to perform pretty well.

You are right, its as easy as my trike Stik. I read a few threads about ground looping and things like that which don't happen with a nose wheel but as they say, don't believe everything you read. I find the ST as easy to fly as any aircraft I have owned.

Flew the Showtime yesterday, I must have messed up the thrust line because the plane kept diving, couldn't trim it out...I managed to get it to fly good by adding washers behind the motor mount to tilt the engine up, plus I had stuck on some weights on the tail earlier, sub trim, flies good now, climbs straight up, hovers easy...I just need to work on that part myself,...LOL...easy to land...O.S. 91 Four stroke in the Showtime 50 makes it rock...should be fun!

well, our club has 55 acres of open space to fly and i managed to hit head on the only friggin tree in SIGHT 1/4 mile out lol. only me. Well the fuse is done, as well as the tail and motor. interestingly enough the wings are unscathed! so if someone needs a set of wings and SFG's just pay shipping and theyre yours! the wing tube was also bent but i inspected the hell out of the wings and found NO structural damage, just a spot of dented balsa- THATS IT. I would guess for packaging and shipping would be roughly 30-35 bucks but if youre interested PM or email me- [email protected] . itd be a shame to toss them. in the pics u can see the ONLY tree and the recovery efforts lol gunna swap electronics and servos into a graciously donated harrier 3d from seagull with a donated evolution 1.00nx. Hope i can help somebody

i think i have the worst luck. after waiting forever to get good weather to fly i finally got my showtime in the air. i was happy until i found that it needed an 1/8" up on one aileron and 1/8" down on the other. i've never need that much correction to fly straight. i did talk to horizon and after talking to 2 techs {the first one said it was a servo problem?} they told me to send in the wings for replacement. i found one wing longer than the other. still flying with the bad wings come in to land and a huge gust of wind came and slamed the plane on the deck ouch! broke up the fuse. ordered and recieved and new one from horizon let me say awsome and fast service. found the box crushed and had two holes in it-not good. opened it up and found the fuse crushed and the tailfeathers broken[:@][:@][:@] well guess i will call horizon tomorrow maybe im just not meant to fly this plane[]

That really sucks. But, HorizonHobby has great customer service. I'm sure the damage came from the shipper.
