Default YS 110 Idle Issue

I have a YS 110 FZ that is fairly new and has about 10 tanks of fuel through it. It runs great from 1/4 throttle to full throttle, great power.
But it idles really rough, I have tried everything I can think of from fuel filter, regulator, check valve, filler valve to replacing the fuel lines. I have also tried replacing the plug. I have spent about 2 hours adjusting and running it to get it better with out success. Is it common for these engines to idle a little rougher than most other four strokes such as OS and Saito? I can get it to idle around 2400 rpm but it is fairly rough, it is not smooth at all. I am running Wildcat 15% with 18% oil. Could it be fuel? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is very frustrating.

Thanks in advance

Does it speed up when connecting the glow plug ? Rough idle is often a sign of too rich mixture. Either too rich setting on the regulator ( if the motor also hesitates on rapid full throttle ) or too rich low idle. Usually the high speed needs to be set first, then the regulator and last the low end needle. Btw the YS are designed to be run on 20/20 or preferably on 30% heli fuel

you really should run it with 20% fuel minimum with 20% oil

I agree with the above,

but at idle the engine is not using the pump, so the regulator and top end needle should have no effect and should not need adjustment if the mid range and top end is OK. If memory serves me the transition to and from the pump is approx 2500 rpm, so it does sound like the bottom end needle setting. But remember though the bottom end needle works in reverse to a normal engine. ie. screw it in and it will richen the setting.

It is possible that the engine has a bad gasket etc, in my experience of YS engines, if you can set it up within an hour or two return it to the shop where you got it or a YS specialist. Here in the UK Probuild are very good and have identified problems that I would havenever found if I stripped it down.

Run the engine of 20% nitro and 20% synth oil. I use 20% heli fuel, use a YS or OS F plug and you should be OK.

Check out the probuild web site they have some good fact sheets

Thanks to everyone who has replied with help. I have tried everything that has been mentioned already. From adjusting the low end needle to changing the glow plug. Transition has been spot on from idle to wide open. I was at our field yesterday and one of my buddies is flying a YS 1.20 and it idles the same way, pretty rough compared to a Saito. Of course the Saito does not have the power a YS has but it seems that I am wishing for something better and maybe it is as good as it get's. Keep in mind I don't think I mentioned this, but it is on a 60 size UCANDo that only weighs 7.5 lbs. I think the idle condition might be enhance being that it is on a very light airframe. Thanks again for all the help I can use all I can get. The fuel issue was a big question of mine so I think I will switch fuel's for sure.

Hi twin 3d

In taxed to the hilt, rip-off Britain I run my YS110 on 10% nitro without problem so that is not the cause.
Every engine maker can produce a lemon now and again. Could be worth returning, if it has never run well from new.

My first YS 1.10 ran perfectly on 15% nitro during break-in flying on a Funtana 90. The second time I took it to the field I boosted the nitro to 30% just for the extra power.
This engine was always smooth except when I did a test run with the wings off the Funtana and it nearly shook the fuselage to pieces. It is obvious that the mass of the airframe has some effect on vibration amplitude.
I can also say that my second YS 1.10 was never as smooth as my first one. But then, maybe because it is on a different plane. Or maybe all YS's are just not the same.

I have two 110s one on a Sig Mayhem and one on a Jerry's Big Boy. I did have to send each one back because I couldn't get them to run either. When I got the one for the Sig back I mounted it and haven't touched it since. It will idle very, very slowly. When I got the one for the BB back I mounted it and took it to the field and couldn't get it to run at all. No matter what I tried it would not run. So I pulled the engine and plumbing off the plane and put it back on the stand and set all back to factory. It would run but only with the glow driver connected. Take it off and it died. I said what the heck, I could have swore I changed the plug last time at the field but I went ahead and put a OS F plug in and tried again. She fired up immediatly and I removed the driver. She was running at about 1/4 throttle so I pused it to full and set the high a couple cliks rich. Quickly pulled back to idle and it didn't miss a beat. On transition it blubbered so I screwed the reg in 1/2 turn and went through the procedure again. Was still a little rich so I screwed the reg in 1//4 and went through the procedure of setting the high again. This time she ran great without the blubbering on transition. I'm running a 16X6 APC prop and Cool Power 30/20 Heli. It's exspensive but it will idle so slow that I won't leave it there for fear of dead stick. I put a couple cliks of throttle in until I get ready to land and then click 'em back out for landing. I've never heard a FS engine idle as low as the YS. I have a Saito 82 that runs great but the YS is a power house. My BB weighs about 9lbs at least and the verticle is unbelievable.I will say that you're nitro is way to low for the YS. Minimum 20/20 is what you need and 30 is even better.
