Default Are Shock Flyers any good?

Hi everyone!

My local Hobby Shop is selling the following items for $20 each and I wanted to know if these models are any good:

Extrema A 330 - $20
Superstar $20
Yak 54 $20

Insane Foamie Solara $30
Quasar 02010 $44

I have never built and flown a 3D and wanted to know which of these models do you recommend and why.

Thank you!~

Freddy

Your Superstar is one of the best indoor 3d plane. Have a group in our area and that is what they fly.

Thank you for answering my questions about the Superstar!

Can you tell me about what type of motor, batteries, etc.?

Thank you,

Freddy

These aircraft are the best, I have two Ikarus F3A shockflyer, the best combo for these is a Axi 2204/54 motor, castle creation 10A speed. I use a 8x4.3 prop and you can hover all day with it.
Im using a 11.1V 350 to 400mah packs, just find the lightest packs around this capacity. The Axi motor only weighs 25grams so you can keep this plane really light.

Our guys use an IPS C gearbox with the little gold Fieargo brushless motor. The ending # on it is 36. A GWS HD 11 X 7 prop. They use a common sense 500 3 cell or Thnderpower 3 cell 750. Can really get it torque rolling with that large prop.

Blunderbum,

Thank you for the heads up and I will look into purchasing the correct motor. I have a new Axi that I have never used. It is a 2208/26.

Is this too heavy or do ya think it may work?

RHD,

Thank you for your info. I will look into the Fieargo.

I also have a new Himax HA 2015/4100 and a Razor Micro Heli v.2.

Would these work or are they too heavy?

PS,

I really like your plane when I checked out those pics!

You sure did an excellent job!

Freddy,

From memory the 2208/26 is a good motor but it is twice the weight of the 2204/54. I think it weighs 45grams. The front of the shockys aren't super strong so you would be better putting the lightest motor on their as possible. I also don't like having gearbox etc on the front for the same reason plus it's also more to repair if you nose in. The lighter you can make it the better the wing loading also it will give you longer flight times. I can tell you now, you will not be disappointed with a 2204/54 up front. It will hover on 1/4 throttle and pull out of the hover like a freight train.

I have also fitted a lighting system on my shocky so I can fly it at night, looks really cool.

Blunder,

Thanks for the info. I will follow your advice and do my best to install a smaller motor as you have suggested. I appreciate your input Blunder.

Blunder,

May I ask where you obtained that motor mount? [it appears to be a cross-type set up].

Thanks,

Freddy,

The cross motor mount comes with the shock flyer, just drill out the center for the rear motor shaft to clear. I used two small self tapping screws to hold the motor on.

Cheers

Blunder,

I have not had the opportunity to open my shock flyer kit yet....hopefully this coming weekend!

I will look for that motor mount. Unfortunately, the 2204/54 is $64 at my local hobby shop and that is above my budget at this time. I may have to wait a while before I can purchase the correct motor. I am hoping I can still get by with the 2208/26 even though it is twice the weight of the 2204/54.

Thanks again for all your good info.

Freddy
